1. sorry, obviously my title is deliberately provocative and misleading
It's fundamentalist religion that makes people less moral. It is interesting that people not associated with organized religion get the right answer most often.

2. Authoritarianism
and its unquestioning followers are much less moral than people who question leaders of all kinds. Doesn't matter if the leader is Jim Jones or Stalin (extreme cases). Dobson's followers just want somebody else to do the dirty work, and they will cheer them on.

3. I like Cafferty.

He supported the war at first, but made a pretty sharp change in course after Downing Street. His segment is usually interesting, too, though I wish they'd give him something more than a side role on the Situation Room.

As to the video, I am unsurprised. I'm a Buddhist, but even belonging to a large group, I realize that some of the most judgmental people I've encountered were the devoutly religious. It's easy to justify anything when you seriously believe that your superior being is better than theirs.

4. I go to a Baptist sermon every Easter
so I understand about torture

George said about the same thing in the responses. Really good responses, well thought out except of course for the one who rejected it because it didn't suit his precondition.

5. No big surprise
When the foundation of your belief system is fear, it isn't that much of a stretch to think that torture is justified.

6. Why is this result such a surprise?

Torture was the surest method of identifying witches and heretics so they could be burned at the stake.
