Nina Petraro Bastardi, the Democrat candidate for Nassau County Legislature in the 3rd District, attempted to announce the start of her campaign with Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.

They were confronted by Joe Mondello's viciousGOP thugs, who attempted to shout them down.

1. Nassau County
It so happens that I live in Westbury, where that video was filmed. I can tell you that this is not new news to me. Not just the rethugs but the cops here are some real thugs. Remember the debate at Hofstra? That is where cops mounted on horseback trampled on a disabled vet, then arrested a bunch of them. Of course once it hit the courts, it was dismissed. Still we here are making progress, if we could only get rid of P King and replace him with a human being it would make my day.

2. I'm from Lawng Island, but haven't lived there in years.
I have a friend who works for the Dem party in Suffolk, and do hear that people are waking up.

5. I don't know that I'd have made the announcement at the Republican center after changing sides but
in the long run, she gained credibility by the reaction of the folks, dare I say thugs, who showed up. I guess press conferences will be better monitored from now on - and perhaps require some security but she gained more votes by their attacking her than she lost.

Who presidential policies were enacted during 8 years before the economic crisis?
Who controlled congress 6 of those 8 years?
Who repealed Glass-Steagal?
Who authored the Graham Leach Bliley Act?
Who authored the Bank Modernization Act of 1999?
Who is always preaching deregulation as part of their ideology?

The bill that ultimately repealed the Act was introduced in the Senate by Phil Gramm (Republican of Texas) and in the House of Representatives by Jim Leach (R-Iowa) in 1999. The bills were passed by Republican majorities on party lines by a 54-44 vote in the Senate<12> and by a 343-86 vote in the House of Representatives<13>.

12. I guess what really matters is how she stands on issues...
I honestly don't want to give a shit whether they have a r or D after their name. It's the issues that matter.

She seems like a smart young woman..but there SHOULD BE smart young women on both sides of the aisle. If her positions are those of the Democratic Party...then fine. If she is going to hide in Democratic clothing...then she can go to hell with the repug party left-overs.

...........the "dress for success" MUST have a D after the name. So, apparently, the "sharpest" knives are getting theirs ASAP.

I'm with you on this, Hulk. I personally think that it's a personality disorder to vote republican but in a two party system the pendulum will swing. That's why I want REAL people with REAL convictions leading both parties. This go-with-the-flow posturing by politicians only ensures that we get the lowest types in the highest places.
