Iommi and Ozzy knew how to do it and how to rock it.

4. The local bar down the street has live music each weekend
been going there for 30+ years. Last year, the band playing that Saturday night played "War Pigs" and did a damn good version of it. The bandmembers were all 20-something. Having owned the original Black Sabbath album and listened to "War Pigs" some 1 million+ times, I walked up to the stage at the break and complemented them on their version of "War Pigs" and I said, "Isn't that a great song for the Iraq War?" It was like the thought never crossed their minds and they stopped and said, "Yeah, you're right!" I told them about how that song came out during the Viet Nam war and how it's so applicable today. They just thought that was so cool that a song from back then applied so well to today. Later I told my wife I was dismayed that they apparently never made the connection between the Iraq war and the song, but at least they did get it and were now more aware.

Subverting this administration one mind at a time!

10. Dif'rent crowd
And more effective to play to a angsty teen male than a peaceful couple of lovebirds in conveying a message.

Who is more likely to enlist and needs this pointed out to them?

14. Dylan isn't a song
and I know he's the greatest musician of all time, aside from the whole thing about not being barely able to play harmonica, guitar, and sing.

9. Incredible
Talk about your coincidences. I stumbled across this video on You Tube this weekend. I watched it for the song, but the video is very well done too. Makes me sad. "When will they ever learn?"

11. protest music spans the generations!
I listened to this song in 9th grade (I'm now 50+ years old)

Metal also spans the generations. 35 years ago I never thought Ozzie would still have a career.

I love it when the music my parents hated still resonates with youth

saw it on a video on one the the linked sights about the death and destruction and knew I had to have it for my DU venting sessions. Have we been greeted as liberators yet?? Just checking.:bounce:

16. Here's one from GNR
It's not perfect poetry, but it's a damn good effort. The guitar work is amazing for the hard rock genre

Civil War Lyrics
Artist(Band):Guns N' Roses

(Slash / McKagan / Rose)

What we've got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach...
So, you get what we had here last week,
Which is the way he wants it !
Well, he gets it !
N' I don't like it any more than you men.

Look at your young men fighting
Look at your women crying
Look at your young men dying
The way they've always done before

Look at the hate we're breeding
Look at the fear we're feeding
Look at the lives we're leading
The way we've always done before

My hands are tied
The billions shift from side to side
And the wars go on with brainwashed pride
For the love of God and our human rights
And all these things are swept aside
By bloody hands time can't deny
And are washed away by your genocide
And history hides the lies of our civil wars

D'you wear a black armband
When they shot the man
Who said "Peace could last forever"
And in my first memories
They shot Kennedy
I went numb when I learned to see
So I never fell for Vietnam
We got the wall of D.C. to remind us all
That you can't trust freedom
When it's not in your hands
When everybody's fightin'
For their promised land

And
I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
You're power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war

Look at the shoes you're filling
Look at the blood we're spilling
Look at the world we're killing
The way we've always done before
Look in the doubt we've wallowed
Look at the leaders we've followed
Look at the lies we've swallowed
And I don't want to hear no more

My hands are tied
For all I've seen has changed my mind
But still the wars go on as the years go by
With no love of God or our human rights
and all these dreams are swept aside
By bloody hands of the hypnotized
Who carry the cross of homicide
And history bears the scars of our civil wars

We practice selective annihilation
Of mayors and government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum
As popular war advances
Peace is closer

I don't need your civil war
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor
You're power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
And I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
I don't need your civil war
You're power hungry sellin' soldiers
In a human grocery store
Ain't that fresh
I don't need your civil war
I don't need one more war

I don't need one more war
Whaz so civil 'bout war anyway?
