1. I just keep loving this man more and more.
Great Clip! It is time we stand up to the insurance and drug companies. They are just like big oil. They have their grip on the government and there will be no change as long as they keep giving money, as they do, to candidates. Just which of these folks are taking money from the drug and insurances companies?

9. His passion for the people is what
convinced me that he is the candidate we need at this time. We have been bullied and misled by the corporatists and the msm.

Edwards understands that you need to fight them, and he is willing to do that. Even better he has won against them.

3. What about the rest of us?
He should be outraged. We all should be, yet there is an eerie complacency among the population. Sure people complain but mainly around the dinner table, and it seems nearly as many give the old excuses excoriating a government-centric program in any form.

Then there is the politics. The most memorable item from Bill Clinton's book is where he discusses the health care debacle. As he tells it, he and Bob Dole were close to an agreement on a program but republicans scuttled it because if enacted, it would give the democrats a major boost that would destroy republican electoral chances. Nothing like putting the needs of the people first. But this is never mentioned. You only hear how Hillary overstepped her bounds and tried to socialize medicine here in the US.

8. The big white elephant in the living room is...
... the fact that Americans are as a whole a fairly selfish and narcissistic bunch.

We have the system that we have let happen, the fact that the system is a for profit dehumanized monstrosity speaks volumes about who we are as a people... the fact that we are carrying out this debate in the XXI century simply illustrates how backwards our society really is.

Yes, there is good people in this country. Problem is with the mass of selfish assholes out there... To this day I don't think any one even knows the actual death toll for Katrina. And few people care...

12. According to Open Secrets.com,
From the top recipients of contributions from the Pharmaceuticals/Health insurance industry list, they have Hillary Clinton as number 20 on the list!

She is number one on the list from the Health Professionals.

She is number 4 on the list of insurance companies.

She appears as number one on the list for commercial banks.

Also keep in mind that Bill Clinton pushed through NAFTA.

If we want change, we will not get it from Clinton.

15. Explain to me how Edwards' plan "stands up to the insurance companies"
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 11:52 PM by calteacherguy
"Create regional Health Care Markets purchasing pools to give every American the bargaining power to purchase an affordable, high-quality health plan, increase choices among insurance plans, and cut costs for businesses offering insurance."

Seems to me his plan is using the pre-existing industry, not standing up to it.

17. This isn't a Universal Health Plan
This is a mandatory requirement for citizens to purchase health insurance. I'd suggest people be very careful with what Edwards is selling because it happens to be following Mitt Romney. He isn't standing up to any industry. He isn't removing any for profit insurance companies. When auto insurance became mandatory, premiums were negotiated on the state level and increased 300% to 400%.

19. It is a TRUE Universal Health Care plan.
That is what John Edwards offers. It is a GOVERNMENT RUN MEDICARE-PLUS program for ALL. People seem to be really confused about what Edwards' health care plan is.

18. This country is not about helping its citizens
The corporate media and politicians throw a lot of smoke screens. This country is not about helping average citizens, it is about how to scam the public and making rich richer.
