California lawmakers are working to abolish an antiquated law that requires doctors to look into “the causes and cures of homosexuality.” The state adopted the law in 1950 “in response to public outcry over sex crimes in California” and added the homosexuality provision as part of a broader effort to to study the psyche of sexual predators. As Bonnie Lowenthal, the Assemblywoman who’s spearheading the repeal explained in this LA Times piece, “In 1950, homosexuality remained, officially, a mental disorder. So when the Legislature promised funding for a study into the causes and cures of sexual deviance, it was, tragically, natural to add homosexuality to the list.”

Clearly, “the best political team on television” was just not at its best, proving that CNN can’t be “trusted” to do even the most preliminary background research on its guests. The network provided the self-proclaimed former homosexual with a platform to promote his organization, the International Healing Foundation, without once challenging his credentials or claims of rehabilitation. In reality, Cohen has been kicked out of the The American Counseling Association and currently operates without any professional license or accreditation. His views on homosexuality have been discredited by every established medical organization and his ideas about gays are apparently only taken seriously by CNN bookers and producers.

7. I can believe it
Sounds like he's all sour grapes to me. An insatiable bottom size queen who decided that since he couldn't find one large enough, he would make a career out of talking people out of sexual satisfaction.

11. Well, you do have to wonder why he's so obsessed with
it if he's moved on and is SO happy with his straight life.

4. Turner doesn't have the $$$
At least CNN was a news network, that is still the best when the "____" hits the fan. They have had this issue of getting people to watch them for their entire history, which is now 30 years. Ted Turner believed in the "news" being the star, not the personalities, excluding Larry King.

10. I never understood why homosexuality had to be "cured."
From what I have experienced and can see (anecdotal of course) my life is more or less like everybody else's. I have the same hopes, fears, desires, whatever as anyone else. In fact the only difference in my life that I can see from other's lives is I have to put up with homophobes.

Sociological, psychosocial, scientific and religious reasons exist to view homosexuality as a treatable disorder. To consider homosexuality an abnormal condition should not to be correlated with bigotry or homophobia, any more than considering alcoholism as abnormal would be tantamount to being "alcoholophobic."

So.... they think homosexuality is the same as ingesting a drug that chemically effects and changes the brain to become addicted. Interesting.

Anyway... this very article opens with this paragraph:

Douglas Hamill, O.F.M., M.D., FAAP, has presented a concise argument in favor of the normality of homosexuality (February 1995 AAP News). However, there is an opposing view.

So you see....nothing is for certain here. It's not as concrete as he would like you to think.

here 's what I was reading:

So he's a bisexual! And there are many others! Wow! :eyes:

because they have only gotten more sensationalist and inflammatory...(another trait co-opted from faux)

He's desperately trying to keep that law on the books because it most likely gives him FEDERAL FUNDING. "Let's Research" indeed.

CNN does not understand that "fair and balanced" and "diverse viewpoints" does NOT include frauds and academic rejects like Cohen. Oh, I've also heard that Rupert Murdoch is seeking some shares of CNN.
