2. Yeah, the next time I go to my doctor I'll take along a crate of chickens and a basket of turnips...
Maybe a jar or two of preserves put up last fall.

Yeah, that'll do it! "Here, Doc, here's your pay!"

Oh, by the way, Ms. Lowden, when the banks and Wall Street wanted a bailout, I don't recall you suggesting they barter with the American people? Maybe we all could have gotten a couple dozen eggs, a gallon of goat's milk and a bushel or two of corn.

Oh, that's right, you said "pay cash." That's what I want to do with my doctor: right after my appointment I want to stand there at the receptionist's desk and haggle with him...

3. Freep: OK Doc, hows about I pay you 66% of what you're asking?
Edited on Wed Apr-14-10 12:17 PM by kenny blankenship
Doctor: How about I put your diseased kidney back in, and you die?

That's how easy it is to strike a bargain in the health care market. No muss no fuss, no haggling - or not for long anyway. Don't be afraid to bargain with your physician! It can only benefit you. Since the Free Market will have been fully consulted and exercised in every deal reached this way, the price charged to consumers by suppliers will have been the lowest possible, since we know the Bible says that's how the Free Market works to keep prices low. Hallelujah!

4. I assume that Sue will have no problem bartering with her constituents for her salary and benefits

Good f*cking grief! We're in the XXI century and some jaggoff apprentice of fascist in this country is making a case for bartering with a straight face.

Yeah, let's "barter" with those who have the upper hand since they control our healthcare and our lives depend on their expertise. No wonder these idiots suck at business...

5. What a fucking moron.
These people have no conception of what life is like for the vast majority of Americans. What colossal stupidity.

8. For that chemo, I'll offer you a side of beef and a chicken to be named later.

I can see all of these doctors with a yard full of livestock and other non-cash items stored around their properties all because we've started bartering with these health care providers.

11. This isn't necessarily that crazy...
I have a relative who is a doctor and charges a yearly fee rather than take insurance and having to abide by insurance dictates.

He has several patients who file paperwork or clean the office in exchange for the yearly fee.

But I think Lowden wants the whole system based on this, which wouldn't work.

It does work in some cases though.
