I'm glad this was brought up in the senate.

1. Sadly... straight educators ( and , remarkably, some GLBT educators)

... do not want to touch the issue with a ten foot pole.

Did I say "sadly"? I meant "tragically".

2. Thank you, Senator Franken - you're a caring human being...
and in the senate, that's refreshing.

3. The last point is the most important...
This thing starts at home. Teachers are expected to pick up the slack for parents who are not doing their job at home, and being held accountable for that.

4. Noted from this clip...
Vertically placed signs on the desk... Ooooh, what could this mean?

Seriously, if you want to achieve the goal of parental involvement in the anti-bullying programs, then make them available on DVD at the library, or have the local (cable?) education/govt channel show them. Tie this with some incentive... this is where we can put some of the otherwise "administrative" money in school budgets, which usually go to curriculum "specialists", or some new furniture in an administration bldg!

The Southern Poverty Law Center has anti-bullying literature (another low-cost, available magazine).

It's education, so let's instill some, even if we have to legislate it!
