3. Same old, same old...
Being from neighboring Kentucky (central, though, not eastern), this is just one more chapter in the whole sickening book of Life in Appalachia.

Does anyone really think anything's going to change?

It won't, I promise you. Between snake-handling churches preaching the evils of unions and the entire toothless sub-culture's antipathy to "gummint," things will be, in a year or so, pretty much where they are now.

You do realize this dynamic is very little changed from the time Bobby Kennedy drew attention to it? That should be a hint that something's working for this strata of society.
