Rep. King: The U.S. Has "Already Ceded" Rep. Grijalva's District To Mexico

April 28, 2010 10:15 am ET by Matt Finkelstein

Last week, Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) called for a boycott of Arizona over the state's draconian, possibly unconstitutional immigration law. "Do not do business with a state that is propagating the idea separate but equal treatment under the law can be codified," he said.

Unlike Grijalva, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) is a big fan of Arizona's crackdown. After praising the effort in a statement earlier this week, King blasted Grijalva's position last night. During an interview on Fox News, King absurdly suggested that Grijalva's district has been "ceded" and accused the Arizona lawmaker of "advocating for Mexico" and against the United States.

LAURA INGRAHAM: This boycott is intended to do, what? I would imagine to intimidate people from supporting this law which, as far as I can tell, is wildly popular, but to intimidate because they're using dollars. Is there anything wrong with that?

REP. STEVE KING: Well, it looks like the case is that, that he's trying to scare the businesses out of Arizona, or he's trying to get the businesses to change their position and press the legislature to reverse the law that was just signed by the governor the other day. I'm wondering if we look at the map of Congressman Grijalva's congressional district if we haven't already ceded that component of Arizona to Mexico judging by the voice that comes out of him, he's advocating for Mexico rather than the United States and against the rule of law, which is one of the central pillars of American exceptionalism.

2. the 'American exceptionalism' part is interesting
he's advocating for Mexico rather than the United States and against the rule of law, which is one of the central pillars of American exceptionalism.

Really? Does this law really represent what distinguishes America from the rest of the world? Increased power of government to detain people who haven't committed a crime. Central pillar? Really? Is that what immigrants dream of when they dream of America? People getting arrested?

3. meaning, King's talking out of his arse instead his mouth! Notice his code words about Grivalja
sounding like the Mexican govt because of who's saying boycott AZ, one of "them". This King fella is an affront to civility in government, and to insult a fellow Congressman like that deserves rebuking from Congress, and a formal apology is owed.

What a louse that asshat is, saying his district is essentially Mexican-run. I'm sure it's got TONS of illegal immigrants in it, but it's not 'ceded' to the Mexicans.

4. Steve King seems to be competing with Rick Santorum
for title of Biggest Douche in the Universe.

The notion that Latinos aren't Americans makes my blood boil. My Puerto Rican mom was a Wave in WWII; my Mexican BIL was an Army medic in Vietnam. Those of us who were born here are as American as apple pie and arroz con pollo.

As for the moron (name forgotten) who says Latinos who were born here should be deported because their "souls" aren't "American enough," how can he be an expert on something he doesn't have?
