May 09, 2010 — On April 5, 2010, the City Council of Portland, Maine, the largest city in the state of Maine, approved - by a 7 to 1 vote - a resolution to Maine's First District U.S. Congresswoman, Chellie Pingree and to Maine's two U.S. Senators, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. Portland's resolution requests that it's three members of Congress "...oppose all legislation brought before the 111th U.S. Congress that provides further funding of the U.S. warfare and U.S. military occupations in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan; and the City of Portland, Maine also urges these members of Congress to take strong and forceful action to influence the U.S. Congress to terminate funding of these military operations." Discussion and commentary by the Portland City Council and by the public at Portland's April 5 meeting was clear in terms of the waste of human lives and financial resources, the need to terminate these wars and the belief that such a resolution to Congress is an appropriate role for local officials in a community that incurs $15 million per year in war costs.

Highlights of the April 5 Portland, Maine meeting are on video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te5dtT... produced by Gary Higginbottom and Martha Spiess for the Maine Campaign to Bring Our War Dollars Home.

1. I reced this and it stayed at zero
I thought it is worth listening to the message. Nothing is being accomplished in these countries except the shedding of more blood and the spending of more money. How often do we think about the families that are ripped abut by war. The families of this country and the countries that we invade.

It is time for us to come home and fix our own country before we try to fix the world.

2. Bravo!
Good to see people standing up to the military industrial complex. Let's seal up that black hole and start spending that money at home.
