3. I'm not so sure I understand this...

I can understand straightening up you work area before the Big Guy/Gal comes walking through, but this operation was 5,000 feet underwater. What's the need to "hurry up" when no one is going to see it? Unless...by bypassing safety measures (the "mud") and going directly to cement would look like the operation was completed (I assume the six Big Wigs would look at a live-video feed and see what looked like a completed operation, unaware that it was a facade as the "mud" was never inserted).

Is this what Thom is implying?
