ANGRY...we all need to feel this emotion until we regain this country from the corporations, bankers, corrupt politicians, corrupt government workers, the biased media. We need to use this anger to save this country from the corruption within this country. We have nothing to lose by using this anger. If we sit back it is lost anyway.

And a surprise to me...I figured the booming people knew what they were doing.

Over the past week, I have felt that neither the government nor BP knows what they're doing vis a vis appreciating and therefore mitigating the existing or looming environmental/ecological holocost. In BP's case, I trust that they are trying to salvage as much petroleum as possible while waging an aggressive PR campaign. Remediating the damage is questionable. I also doubt that the government and BP are being honest with the public.

Consequently, I find the monologue here (despite my burnt ears) totally credible and educational. Its value is just that a perspective from outside of corporate America.

In the above post, I mistakenly distinguished between BP and the government as if they were mutually exclusive. Saddly, I have now realized that BP=Government - what works for one, works for the other.

Obama announced the other day that he is forming a commission to study the oil leak situation. If Bush had done that we would have all been screaming. Obama is looking utterly weak and ineffectual and limp-wristed and hamstrung. Whatever happened to "audacity"?

Obama chose to embrace the DLC crowd and all he is doing is trying to appear in the middle of the road, no matter how far off in right field that entire road is. If you are altogether on the right (wing) side of the universe, what difference does it make that you have found some little road there in which you are in the middle?

Politically Obama is a DLC wimp and we see that he is being a wimp also on substance and administrative activity in dealing with the leak in the Gulf.

There is talk now that he took a lot of campaign money from BP.

He can't get out from under the political quagmire in all this to actually do something tough? If Bobby Kennedy were here he would be kicking ass, sending in Federal marshals, he'd be pouring over legalities to find ways to kick ass within the existing system, arrest people based on this or that statute. When Martin Luther King was in jail during the 1960 campaign Bobby picked up the phone and made calls that saved King's life in jail.

But what I see with Obama in the Gulf oil disaster is just tiptoeing around the edges hesitantly, worrying about what the GOP would say etc.

Now I'm also reading that the BP oil leak is being called "Obama's Katrina."

Don't you know that Obama is playing three dimensional chess while the rest of us are trying to figure out which squares the checkers belong on. You just don't know our president.

In a recent article I noted that booms 'look appropriate for an Olympic-sized swimming pool' but that's 'cause I didn't know fucking proper fucking booming.

Now I do, and this blowout is still the most hideous event any of us will ever see (that's see, not the stuff we're responsible for elsewhere in the world, which might as well be in Alpha Centauri). Another article called the Deepwater Disaster a 'fixing point' for all the ills that plague us as a nation - corporate personhood, political corruption and inertia, environmental destruction, a useless media, and crucial public issues shrouded in secrecy (even in the aftermath). It is a fixing point, and the only thing left is to see the full public reaction, to determine if we still have the ability to take matters into our own hands. Because if this isn't just cause, there is no such.

about sums it up - Chernobyl was analogous in the USSR - corruption, no news coverage, the misplaced belief in technology, the misplaced belief in the communist system, cronyism, corruption, and cynicism (is there any cynicism out there???) bureaucrats who wouldn't talk to each other, secrecy, etc., etc. and we all know what happened to the USSR not long after Chernobyl.

Damn right. It only makes sense that you don't try to contain all the oil in one line of booms. I thought it was kind of odd when I saw what they were doing on the news.
