my dad is one of them, he says its uncomfortable. I mean really, risking your life just to be a tiny bit more comfortable?

in which, from what i've been told, the car went end over end three times. i was ejected from the passenger window and the car landed on top of me. i was lucky. i shouldn't be here. i walked away with glass in my eye and on my forehead and ear area on the one side and in my knuckles and broke my leg. needless to say.... i always wear my seatbelt.

When I was in my twenties (1980s, SoCal) I was riding in a friend's car when he got stopped for some minor moving violation. Cop looked around the car and ended up giving us all seatbelt tickets. This may have been just after wearing a seatbelt became the law in California, but I'm not really sure about that. My friend, from then on, required anyone in his car to put it on or get the fuck out. I rode with him a lot in those days. Yes, it was uncomfortable. But we did it so we wouldn't get pulled over and have them find something else we were doing. The upshot was, after awhile I couldn't ride in ANY car unless I wore a seatbelt. I felt naked.

And all because we were trying to "maintain"...lol.

in her life that had she been belted into the car seat she would have died. Yes, I know it is unusual but I can see how after that some people are not eager to wear them.


1st accident: when she was about 6 years old. Mom and the grandfather and her where in one car towing a second car traveling back to PA. The u-haul tow thing broke causing tire to blow a flat they went into the ditch and the car they towed landed right on the other car. None of them had seat belts on and they all basically walked away. If they had belts on they would had died from the other car collasping on the first car. Most major injury Grandfather had a could broken ribs and the mom had a broken wrist.

Second accident: She was 17 years old driving home from a summer job. She was at a stop sign had completely stopped and she hydroplaned on the Gravel causing the car to over turn into a ditch with an expose pipe Had she been wearing the seat belt she would have been impaled by the pipe that bent up underneath the car into the driver's seat.

occasionally not wear my seat belt, until one day I crashed head on into a telephone pole going about 50mph. If I wasn't wearing my seat belt that day I would not be here to write this post. Wear you seat belt! You won't regret it.
