Bush is in deep trouble. It's not exactly news, but what he's doing to save himself makes our job harder. That's why he's turning to Petraeus to deliver what he wants.

Americans trust military commanders far more than the Bush administration or Congress to bring the war in Iraq to a successful end, and while most favor a withdrawal of American troops beginning next year, they suggested they were open to doing so at a measured pace, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll. ... ..

... Only 5 percent of Americans — a strikingly low number for a sitting president’s handling of such a dominant issue — said they most trusted the Bush administration to resolve the war, the poll found. Asked to choose among the administration, Congress and military commanders, 21 percent said they would most trust Congress and 68 percent expressed most trust in military commanders.

Some Democrats took issue with the characterization of General Petraeus as operating free of influence from the administration, suggesting that they would like to diminish his credibility heading into days of intense sparring over how much more time Mr. Bush’s strategy for Iraq should be given.

“I don’t think he’s an independent evaluator,” Senator Dianne Feinstein, Democrat of California, said on “Fox News Sunday.” A White House spokesman, Tony Fratto, responded sharply, saying, “Attacking him in this way is reprehensible.” ... ..

Americans Feel Military Is Best at Ending the War

That's our challenge. Doing what Congress can't do very well. But attacking the message of a messenger who has a chest full of medals won't be easy. No one relishes it either. However, since Petraeus has chosen to align himself politically with a strategy that is not in our country's best interest, but instead props up a failed president and his strategy that's what we must do. Putting a commander in chief before country is wrong.

2. He's spouting the party line
Iran is responsible and al Qeada in Iraq is responsible. This is part of the smoke screen for staying in Iraq and attacking Iran.
The Iranian Sunburn missiles could sink our fleet in the Persian Gulf. This would give Bush cartel grounds for using new-q-lar weapons as warning for others with oil to turn over their resources to American oil companies.

3. TONY SNOW HERE
So below you will see..... we now do not call car explosions as war related deaths--- the same is true for many other types of deaths and killing in IRAQ... if you don't count them, i guess the numbers are going DOWN.....

and i guess if you remove the cameras we no longer torture.....

BAGHDAD - Nine American soldiers died in Iraq on Monday — all but one killed in vehicle accidents in and around Baghdad, the military said.

4. I wonder if Gen P. Knows about those "loose nukes" ? Not related? Think not?
If you were stretching your military to the brink, and you had one general who was asking for a HUGE portion of your "traditional" military to be used in his "area of concern", what WOULD YOU GIVE TO THE OTHER GENERALS TO HELP MAKE THEM FEEL "SAFER" If you were in charge of China or Russia or N. Korea and you needed resources but the BOSS only want to give time, attention, assets, resources to the Iraq guy. But, the BOSS wants YOU and your fellow GENERAL, ADMIRALS etc. to keep quiet about your unfilled needs. what might the BOSS do o make you feel more comfortable? What do you think the BOSS might offer YOU (he can't give you ground forces and "traditional" weapons, they are all busy else where)? You might feel more comfortable with some armed NUKES at you disposal? Just where were they headed, and under who's commands were they sent and under who's command were they meant to be sent to? These questions must be answered in order for us to know what is going on behind the scenes in our military and "to" our military as this "Pro-Defense" president "plays" with our national assets and our lives.
