1. Absolutely GD right!
If the US attempts to maintain anything resembling competitiveness, we must turn toward clean & alternative sources of energy. It is ludicrous for regressives to suggest that we can 'drill our way' out of the problems associated with using crude oil as a primary source of energy.

2. Yea ! As a Union Carpenter, I helped Re-tool this Allison plant
a few years ago. It is a strong Union plant and huge. You have to ride "Gators" or golf carts to get to different areas. In fact their Unionized carpenters (Auto Workers Union) earned higher wages than we (Carpenters Union) did. It was great. Almost every employee checked to make sure that we belonged to the Union while working there.
That is important. They (the employees) did not want underpaid (and usually under-skilled, we train continuously) to build the areas (a lot of load bearing structures) where if improperly constructed, could kill them. On the most, they were a very large family of productive, proud, Union workers. They were excited about the new energy saving technology too. Before this "re-tool" they were slated to be closed.
It just makes good business sense. You want your employees to be proud of their accomplishments and treated fairly, paid fairly, etc... so that they want to build the best product possible and be able to contribute to our economy when they are not at work. They worked a lot of overtime as well.

This is what America should strive for. Bury the Koch brothers and others who want to oppress us. Obviously Allison's owners were making a good profit from their products. They did not make as much of a profit,(in the short term) because they pay living wages, but in the long run it definitely increases profits when you have a happy, motivated team of workers.

Conversely, when we did work at non-union plants, Most of the workers were not as energetic and pleasant. Usually, we were not allowed (by contract) to wear or display any pro-Union slogans. We were not allowed to mention Unionization to these employees. Usually, they very oppressive places. Seriously, if they caught an employee speaking to us, they were (the employees) questioned and possibly fired. Koch's would have gleefully appreciated it.

3. WTF is a personal recession?
Edited on Sat May-07-11 09:09 AM by JJW
Obama knows no shame. If you're not doing well in this Wall Street predatory economy, it is apparently a personal problem, according to Obama.

5. Every recession is personal.
Or don't you think that those who suffer are not individuals?

It will be interesting thought to see if you survive the recession and get to 1000 posts.
