1. Somehow, Frum just does not have a pleasant personality.
He seems to lack that little touch of humility that makes a person likeable. Sad really. It has nothing to do with what he thinks about political issues.

2. I can't stand Frum.
He and Brooks. What frickin' empty suits.

3. I can't take much of Irshad Manji's overbearing personality or her distorted
perception of reality. She thinks Democratic & Republican attacks are equal -- obviously, she isn't well-informed.

5. To her point
About sniper operations sometimes work and sometimes fail. Obama weighed the chances that the operation could go wrong AND HE MADE THE HARD CHOICE which paid off.

9. He said in his mind it had a 55/45 chance of success.
Obviously he was well aware of the risk involved, and what failure would mean to his presidency and reelection chances. It was a gutsy move, and anyone who doesn't admit that, regardless of their opinion of Obama in general is either lying or blinded by their hatred of him.

18. I didn't agree with the false equation, but otherwise she's very knowledgable...
She's also funny, smart and easy on the eyes.

Yes, I know she's a lesbian --unfortunately. :P

6. Why give Frum a voice?
Edited on Mon May-09-11 07:48 AM by Enthusiast
He is a full time propagandist. And that repulsive woman! Bill, you sure did go out of your way to make sure that was a balanced group. Unfortunately you also went out of your way to let them spew their lies. Jesus Christ, am I going to have to shut Bill Maher off now too?

8. See: "Politically Incorrect" on ABC, 1997-June 2002.
Bill can't do what he does so well unless it's on pay TV.

10. Exactly. HBO is probably the best possible venue...
for Bill. They let him say virtually anything he wants, and probably have the largest audience of any pay channel. If he were on a regular network, he would either be fired or so heavily edited that his show would become no more controversial than the Daily Show (not that I don't love and respect the Daily show, but Bill goes places that Jon Stewart never could on a channel owned by Viacomm). Bill has in my opinion found the perfect home for what he does best, and BTW, I love HBO for letting him do it.

14. Here's the thing that I don't understand about that point
Yes, it's wonderful that Bill Maher has a great show on HBO and it gets a TV-MA rating for language because heaven knows the kiddies don't need to hear that kind of language. I'm not being sarcastic. I really think children shouldn't be exposed to cursing. It does little to advance their vocabularies.

Yet, just a few days ago, I was surfing through the non-premium channels that I have and I encountered one of the many CSI or CSI-like shows on TV, and they had a full decapitation on the morgue slab complete with bloody-tissue separation. It was disgusting. I didn't stick around long enough to see what the rating for that show was, but to me--that is far more distasteful that anything Bill Maher could ever utter. Yet there it was on network television.

My solution would be keep the Real Time on HBO so they could cuss as much as they like, and then re-air it as an 1 1/2 hour show on Comedy Central at 1:00 a.m. Saturday and slap a TV-MA on it so I can watch it without the censor beeps. I would even sit through the commercials without channel surfing. It would be a win-win situation. HBO would make syndication money, Comedy Central would make advertising money, and I would be able to watch Real Time without subscribing to HBO.

17. Me personally, I have no problem with any of that....
I mean if they can run South Park the Movie uncut at night, they can run pretty much anything short of hard core porn. But I wasn't commenting so much on the verbiage as the political content. HBO seems to have a pretty much anything goes attitude, and even a bit of a liberal/progressive attitude. I don't see Viacomm (Comedy Central's parent company) being quite so tolerant. Bill Maher is pretty much allowed to say what ever he thinks regarding pretty much any topic, be it religion, politics or anything else he deems relevant. I don't see any other network giving him that kind of freedom, Comedy Central included. But maybe that's just the beer talking! :toast:

19. She's actually a very smart and knowledgeable woman, whom you shouldn't judge based on one clip...
Just because you don't agree with a particular point she makes, doesn't make her a "nutjob" at all.

Geez, the tolerance for other opinions on DU is as big as it is on Fox News.

16. Thanks! Speaking of conspiracy theories about OBL
a friend of mine living in Goa said the rumor there is that Bin Laden died of kidney failure and al quaida decided to let Pakistan cash in on the reward so the reported raid and and burial at sea is US propaganda to justify the expense of the war on terror. Interesting that the story makes al quaida the heroes and the US the fools. Of course this doesn't really jibe with the fellow who inadvertently live blogged the raid or anything reported here. Everyone has their spin and with no prisoner, body or photos surely tall tales will develop.

Not that I'm advocating releasing photos. Personally have no desire to see such things...
