1. I think these guys are hilarious
I think anytime we can laugh at a situation that has such ambiguity, it's a good thing.

I personally believe that the six boys who beat up the one kid should spend time in jail. I don't think that being black is an excuse for bad behavior.

Consider the fact that during the Civil Rights Movement children were dying, being chased by dogs, had water hoses turned on them, spat on--and not one retaliated. It gave the Movement the moral high ground.

So the argument that these boys were provoked by the racial tension of the town doesn't sway me.

Yet I also believe that the charges were excessive. So I'm happy to see that they have been charged with a lesser crime.

On the flip side, the people who hung the nooses on that tree should be arrested for making a terroristic treat and promptly shipped off to Gitmo for questioning. Because when you threaten the lives of any American--white or black--using a symbol of terror from an recent era, it should be taken more seriously than it was.

2. The problem is the disparity in treatment. Nobody thinks anyone should be
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 02:35 PM by Pirate Smile
able to beat people up with no repercussions. The problem is when a kid hits someone over the head with a bottle and it is treated as a juvenile misdemeanor BUT when other kids hit and kick someone, their shoe is labeled a deadly weapon and they are charged as adults with aggravated second-degree battery.

The issue is the Justice system's unequal treatment.

Don't let anyone distort the real issue because they are experts at that.

4. ...either way its bad and we probably shouldn't say it"
Talking about the Klu Klux Klan reduced to playing cards dressed up.

The question was: Are we ridiculing them or are we playing down an important threat?

LOL.
