Wouldn't it have been great if Cornel West had leveled criticisms of actual policies?

This is a crisis. Our condition is in crisis right now. Extending the Bush era tax cuts extended the crisis and fueled the deficit hawk's mouth cannon. See, it's too late for me. Obama has lost me already. But I agree with Dr. West and he has my greatest admiration.

Roland obviously wasn't expecting West to make such a clear and concise defense of his remarks and was completely unprepared to offer any push-back. Its sad how people like Roland go on CNN and other media outlets and bash West, then he has West on his show, gives him an opportunity to explain himself and then doesn't attempt to disagree or bring up any of the criticisms that he previously had.

Its the same with all these fucking faux-liberals like Mellisa Harris-Perry, Joan Walsh and whoever who make these illogical, intellectually shallow criticisms of West, when you know they would be humiliated if they tried to say that shit to his face. Its pathetic. Chris Hedges has it absolutely right when he speaks of how useless and irrelevant these icons of the liberal class are. As soon as you start saying the cold hard truth and pointing out the indefensible positions of Obama and the democrats, they jump on some quote that can be easily taken out of context and throw you under the bus.

West is an American hero and these pathetic attempts to smear his character are disgusting.

Roland's question if black people are too protective of this president, even to our detriment, is a good one. A very good, fair, honest question. Cornel's answer is damn near gibberish.

How did Roland nail him to the wall? He asked him a question, West articulated his point very clearly and then Roland shut up. Roland did not make any of the criticisms that he was making on CNN to Dr. West's face. The reason he did that was because the points Dr. West was making were inarguable and its easier to bad mouth the guy when hes not in front of you and cant defend himself.

Seriously, what are you talking about? Obama disrespected Dr. West after the man did over 60 campaign events for him. He disrespected West after years of knowing him personally and having a good friendly relationship. Yet, West is the bad guy for simply bringing it up? Obama used West and when he didn't need him anymore he cut him loose and refused to even speak with him. Then Obama trips out and starts chastising West for being critical of some of his decisions. Since when is it Cornel West's responsibility to censor himself simply because his comments could be taken out of context by brain-dead pundits and media outlets and used to attack Obama?

West was making the simple point that Obama had disrespected him, if people dont want Obama to look bad in the press maybe Obama should stop treating his old friends like shit.

The post brings up the question and completely ignores the answer.

It is sad to see so many deliberately fall for such simplistic reasoning. So because Obama "disrespected" the man, he gets to call him an Oreo? Say that Obama "fears free black men?" I don't even know why I'm bothering to ask this question because the answer is apparent, but does it not say ANYTHING to you that the vast majority of black scholars, journalists, thinkers and even black posters on DU are nothing short of revolted by Cornel's comments? In light of such evidence, does it not occur to you that maybe, just MAYBE the way that you are interpreting this situation is not necessarily one that takes into consideration the dynamics of black history/and the black present as well as black culture in this country and that maybe, just maybe you don't understand exactly WHY what Cornel said is so particularly offensive and as such, should stop running all over the place pontificating on this matter as if you know what you're talking about? Like I said, I don't know why I'm bothering to ask this question as the answer is already apparent.

And as I said before, Roland NAILED CORNEL TO THE WALL and Cornel's answer is damn near gibberish. The only reason Roland didn't respond is because it was obvious that the allotted time ran out. And the look on his face says he found Cornel's answer damn near as painful as the rest of us. But you can tell yourself it was because "Cornel shut Roland up" all you want. Yeah, you run with that.
