1. Yes, they did, and that drove the Acadians out, some of whom landed in
Louisiana and became our wonderful Cajun people. K&R

4. No you only have to make it if someone says it three times fast. It's like
the betelgeuse thing.

5. gumbo isn't acadian
Edited on Tue May-24-11 07:43 PM by canucksawbones
it's creole, it's more rooted in the african tradition, in fact the name gumbo comes from one of the african languages for okra

all that said, anyone who wants to know more about le grand d'erangement, pm me. I like in Acadian Nova Scotia

7. I disagree that it was ethnic cleansing.
Edited on Tue May-24-11 08:33 PM by provis99
The british were perfectly willing to let Acadians stay if they swore loyalty to the British crown. There are hundreds of thousands of Acadians in Eastern Canada today, who were not ethnically cleansed.

Those kicked out were kicked out because they were disloyal and seditious, not because they were Acadians; I don't blame the British for that.

8. Wait - wha? All 11K of them were seditious?
And part of the problem getting them to sign the treaty of loyalty to the crown was that (a) they could not read and (b) they did not speak English

It would be like going to Baja California, and telling the farmers that they were now Americans, and that they had to sign oaths of loyalty, and do this all in English without an interpreter.
