Paul knocked it out of the park with the comment about how Americans don't want people reading their bank statements etc without their consent. Its totally correct. The whole revelation of iPhones tracking people everywhere they go, coupled with the revelations about the secret patriot act show a government that is increasingly corporatist, and increasingly using corporate made spy technology on its own people, governing without the consent of the governed and violating over 200 years of constitutional law in doing that. The Dems who visit DU were appalled at the Bush administration doing this, they were driven by a spirit of liberty that propelled Obama in with the hopes of change. But then you see moments like this, where the Democratic leadership is just sniveling and worshiping at the feet of these Bush era principles that really reminds us of how deep this rabbit hole goes. We are still in that desert.

So now the democtrats are using scare tactics to convince you how important it is to give up your rights. Amazing.

I think today they voted for two ammendments (both went down in flames).
It is a pity that Leahy / Paul amendment was tabled.

The good part is that other senators were getting braver every day.

On Monday there only 7 senators voting against Patriot Act.
Tuesday slightly more.
Today it was extended with 72 - 23.

A few more days of debate and pressure from voters and it extension might have failed.
