Dr. Carol Swain, conservative commentator / Law Professor joins Thom Hartmann for a debate. Outraged Atheists are trying to pull the plug on Texas Governor Rick Perry's prayer summit...do they stand a chance?

1. Freedom from Religion crowd should not fight this
Let Perry have his public Klan rally so that everybody can see exactly who the nuts are and what they are saying. It could make for some wonderful campaign ads on the progressive side.

2. The cognitive dissonance and lack of reason in Carol Swain and others like her is mind blowing.
They equate not being able to shove their views down others throats and not being able to discriminate against others with being persecuted. It truly is egocentric enough to turn one's stomach. And they scream the loudest if any other group even dips a toe into their domain. How would they react if Native Americans or Hindus tried to teach their creation myths as science in our schools?

And Dr. Swain, just because eighty some percent of the country identifies themselves as Christian, doesn't mean you get to speak for all of them. Most don't believe like you do.

Religious fanatics are some of the worst types of people. If they could see themselves as the more level headed among us see them, maybe they would wake up a little and learn to think. (I've always believed that religious fanaticism is at best a severe type of neurosis.)

3. TREATY OF TRIPOLI! TREATY OF TRIPOLI!!!!!!
Edited on Sat Jul-16-11 01:09 AM by GaYellowDawg
Why the HELL doesn't anyone mention this phrase from the Treaty of Tripoli from 17-fucking-97?!?!?

As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion,—as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen,—and as the said States never entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Every single progressive host needs to hammer away with that! I can't believe Hartmann just sat there and let her blither on with her bullshit about how the US was founded as a "Judeo-Christian nation." Fucking hell, the founders' intent is spelled right the hell out in that treaty!
