The rancorous debate over the debt belies a fundamental truth of our economy -- that it is run for the few at the expense of the many, that our entire government has been turned into a machine which takes the wealth of a mass of Americans and accelerates it into the hands of the few. Let me give you some examples.

Take war. War takes the money from the American people and puts it into the hands of arms manufacturers, war profiteers, and private armies. The war in Iraq, based on lies: $3 trillion will be the cost of that war. The war in Afghanistan; based on a misreading of history; half a trillion of dollars in expenses already. The war against Libya will be $1 billion by September.

Fifty percent of our discretionary spending goes for the Pentagon. A massive transfer of wealth into the hands of a few while the American people lack sufficient jobs, health care, housing, retirement security.

Our energy policies take the wealth from the American people and put it into the hands of the oil companies. We could be looking at $150 a barrel for oil in the near future.

Our environmental policy takes the wealth of the people -- clean air, clean water -- and puts it in the hands of the polluters. It’s a transfer of wealth, not only from the present but from future generations as our environment is ruined.

Insurance companies, what do they do? They take the wealth from the American people in terms of what they charge people for health insurance and they put it into the hands of the few.

We have to realize what this country's economy has become. Our monetary policy, through the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, privatized the money supply, gathers the wealth, puts it in the hands of the few while the Federal Reserve can create money out of nothing, give it to banks to park at the Fed while our small businesses are starving for capital.

Mark my words -- Wall Street cashes in whether we have a default or not. And the same type of thinking that created billions in bailouts for Wall Street and more than $1 trillion in giveaways by the Federal Reserve today leaves 26 million Americans either underemployed or unemployed. And nine out of ten Americans over the age of 65 are facing cuts in their Social Security in order to pay for a debt which grew from tax cuts for the rich and for endless wars.

There is a massive transfer of wealth from the American people to the hands of a few and it's going on right now as America’s eyes are misdirected to the political theater of these histrionic debt negotiations, threats to shut down the government, and willingness to make the most Americans pay dearly for debts they did not create.

These are symptoms of a government which has lost its way, and they are a challenge to the legitimacy of the two-party system.

1. That's very clearly stated.
But almost no one will hear it, right?

8. It may be true that nobody hears him, but I really don't think
the "lol" seems appropriate here. Should be  because this man is brave enough to speak the truth when the willfully ignorant, apathetic, and hateful choose to ignore someone who is, in fact, infinitessimally better than they are.

12. They want to eliminate the poor and middle class
so as to make America an exclusive playground for rich and corporately connected gentry. They no longer require American consumers to drive the bottom line. The bottom line is driven by much larger markets in the Third World, and much cheaper production costs. Except for Sanders and Kucinich all the pols are sold out to this agenda. Except for actual revolution this moneyed usurpation dooms us all. I'm so sorry to be the bearer of the bad news.

Nice post! --

We have the intelligence and the legal tools to turn this around --

We also have elected officials who are keeping this corruption in place --

3. As usual.. Dennis is correct... but no one will listen.
We shouldn't even be HAVING this debate on the Debt ceiling and austerity.

The Republicans set the agenda, play the tune, .... and Obama dances.

We should bring our troops home, rebuild the infrastructure and dump the Federal Reserve.

Ya.. like that will ever happen in never-never land.

35. It's up to us to speak with one another about this reality -- pass it on --
And I'd highly recommend that everyone read Al Gore's recent Rolling Stone

article which also makes clear that we have a Goebbels' style press and

fascist government -- though he never uses those words.

Gore tells us that we have a Congress controlled by the oil and coal industry --

Congress setting its schedule based on their daily fund raising events -- !!

Who are these people we have elected who are so bored with the fate of the planet

and humanity -- so bored with Global Warming as a non-event -- ?

Capitalism is suicidal in its exploitation of nature -- and humans!

Read his article -- google -- unfortunately, something about the script in the

article means I can't pick it up for you --

I have the article stored and I've read it --

but something about the script RS used causes my computer to freeze when

I open the link -- !!??? The more often I've picked up the link, the faster

it freezes -- !!

It is a long article but you can scan it quickly --

Page 2 is all the Global Warming stuff --

39. "I Love Lucy" was the distraction ... we've waited too long --
What was it about the ATOMIC ERA that didn't wake up the public to action?

"Ban the Bomb" was dissolved into nonsense about "peaceful uses" of nuclear energy

and we now have 106 of the nuclear landmines in America --

plus what is happening in Japan at Fukushima --

There was a period of time during the FDR years when the public could feel trust

in government -- this isn't one of those times!!

We need to begin dismantling the MIC and the nuclear reactors -- !!

Obama has just increased the MIC budget again -- any chance we could find some use

for $650 BILLION domestically?

10. America is going to burn.
It is so, so, so sad.

The most ignorant of the real causes are also the most dangerous, the most armed and the most willing to turn to violence.

The reality is that there can be no possible resolution to this drama other than the inevitable blood that is being held back
by a damn wall of greed, and it will burst in a tsunami and everyone will vow never to let it happen again until it does.

So, so sad.

13. America is the most armed country in the world
by this I mean the military/police state. All the fire power owned by individuals in this country is neglegible compared to the powers that be and any thought of revolution in the streets is futile. Go to a country where bribery is of the old fashioned kind and not codified as it is here, and be happy.

That's what torture for one is about --

As the Egyptian and Libyan revolutions have unravelled and dismantled parts

of their ruling dictatorships, it becomes clear that prisons/torture/rapes --

violence against citizens -- intimidation against speech -- are the main ways

these dictatorships stay in power --

30. all we really need to do is
get the Tea Party folks to get behind cutting funding for useless wars, tax cuts, loopholes and bailouts for big business, and tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. United we stand. If the Tea Party movement was truly grass roots and not astroturf this would already be happening. How much longer can republicans get their constituents to vote against their own better interest...

31. At the very beginning, the Dems could have taken over, or fractured, the Tea Party
But corporate Dems were terrified of letting any sort of progressive have a voice, so they demonized the Tea Party as right-wingers and let the Koch brothers have them to themselves.

I STILL think we could take back half of them, but not as long as corporatists are setting the Dem agenda.

but what about the people -- ?

Corporate/fascism may have turned our press into Goebbels' news but we

can still talk to one another -- pass information along.

Dennis couldn't be stating more emphatically that we have government by criminals --

These are symptoms of a government which has lost its way, and they are a challenge to the legitimacy of the two-party system.

and that the two-party system has simply led to both being corrupted by corporate/elite $$.
