Interview with Rabab Amidane, Western Sahara citizen

I am freelancing a bit in benefit of the Saharawi people thru the Norw. support comittee for Western Sahara, and this is an interview with Rabab Amidane (22), an English student in Marrakesh, Morocco. She's at current visiting Norway, and tonight the terrifying news arrived that her family has been arrested.
The imprisoned from Rabab's family are:
Rababs mother: Fatima Amidane (41)
Rababs sister: Minatu Amidane (24)
Rababs sister: Meimuna (14)

Western Sahara was a Spanish colony up until 1975, when Spain withdrew. Morocco invaded the same year and has since occupied Western Sahara.

Most people don't even know about Western Sahara, and don't know their history. Much of the population live in refugee camps in Algeria, and the people still living in Western Sahara is under strict surveillance of Moroccan police.

But brave women and men are demonstrating peacefully for their independence. But not without sacrifices. Her brother El Ouali Amidane, 20 years old, was arrested some months ago while demonstrating for freedom, and was sentenced to 5 years prison.

Rabab Amidane has bravely stood up for her brother and has also taken blows as a response to her actions. Her best friend lost her eye during the same clampdown by Moroccan police.


It is a conflict where a people are being suppressed and has systematically been subjected to human rights violations during the years from 1975 unto present.

And now, today, the rest of her family was arrested and Rabab Amidane has no relatives left in the free.
Norwegians are demonstrating tomorrow, but please take some time to get involved in this conflict.
