15. A professional edit job by johnmellencamp.com
You don't they would've posted it with all the booing left in, do you?
A mixing board is the washed up old singer's best friend.

16. Who is wearing tinfoil now? And Mellancamp "washed up" ?
But of course as he is an anti war advocate, he isn't supporting Hillary so of course you must trash him. Hey let Hill have Murdoch and Company, Edwards has Mellancamp! And Mellancamp rocks!

17. Mellencamp is a beloved Liberal artist ....
Why make this out like the Kennedy Assassination ?

You really appear to be vindictive ....

It is important to note that the video was produced by Mellencamp, and NOT by Edwards ...

The only 'mixing board' is the house system board, and would not be available to political operatives editing MPG's .... So your claim is extremely unlikely ....

I speak as a Democrat who will vote for Edwards OR Clinton (OR the others) ...

We are tired of the trite attacks ....

Edited on Sat Nov-10-07 07:07 PM by MethuenProgressive
"the booing and the cheers were about 50/50."
Funny, that's not what the professionals posting the video want you to think.

Or are you just being Edwards-like?

30. Maybe the re-mixed video for YouTube
was produced by the same people who brought down building 7 on September 11th...

Maybe it was the same people in the live audience spewing diatribes at Bill Maher on his show a couple of weeks ago.

To think that they are in cahoots....

Shiver-me-timbers...

:scared:

Not!

34. If Jim won't, I will.
At best, one report from one person who was "there" would hardly be a good gauge of the entire crowd, just of those few immediately around her.

But here's the funny thing: MSNBC played that clip this morning with the cheering and no booing. Before doing so, the host laughed and said Edwards showed up at a concert and was booed. Then they played the clip WITH NO BOOING, and afterward the shill next to Pat Buchanan laughed and said oh yes, he was booed, that was embarrassing, he should have known better than to go to an event where people paid to see someone else. All the while SHOWING PICTURES OF PEOPLE CHEERING AND REACHING UP TO SHAKE HIS HAND.

Blatant propaganda. Do you think people won't see through this?

47. You have a story from someone on the internet that you don't know
making a claim that (1) they were there and (2) that's what happened.

That's not "evidence" by any stretch of the imagination.

51. The body language of John Edwards and John Mellencamp
suggests that the cheers were louder than the boos. John Edwards seems genuinely pleased with the crowd's reaction.

50. Both John Edwards and John Mellencamp
seemed very happy with the crowd's reaction to Edwards' appearance. That suggests to me that, at least from the stage, the welcoming cries were louder than the boos. Also, Edwards' thank you and his smile were genuine. I watch a lot of Edwards videos. His face shows it if he is uncomfortable. He felt welcome and at ease.

I think this John and John combo much better than the one from 2004. And this time, the right one will be at the top of the ticket! I don't think John Mellencamp should quit his night job to run for VP, though.

10. If 3 people booed ....
Then Edwards has found a MUCH warmer welcome than he might find here at DU, where candidates are cut down to size regularly by armchair pundits who promote their own favorite only by insulting the others ...

This is another opportunity to praise Mellencamp, who at times, like Edwards, has found a cold audience here at DU ..... Yet the man keeps pumping out roots-rock-n-roll as strong as Springsteen, and always with a deep love for the common citizens for which he is part ...

He is a real treasure ....

I love Mellencamp. Sad that people have to distort every blessed thing, obviously cheering and clapping. Mellencamp has supported Edwards for a long time, Kerry too. He's a good guy to have on our side, and he gets rural America too. We ought to listen to the guy, not create political shitstorms for him.

12. The high pitched screams are not boos. That is how we women
greet the candidates we love. How anyone would think that the boos prevailed, I do not know. People cheered when John Edwards came on and they cheered when he left. Someone misrepresented the events that occurred there. The MSM will do anything to keep John Edwards down. The MSM does not like his message.

42. Yup. High pitched screams.
Lots of woohoos there, and the higher pitched ones are women. Would the right wing say the Beatles had been booed when they heard the same thing? That is called a lot of excited women, and I'm sure I would have been one of them, had I been there.

He certainly was gracious, and didn't want to interrupt.

Very presidential.

23. The video did not pick up much of the crowd sounds
Before Edwards comes out, Mellencamp is doing a call-and-response with the crowd:

JM: I've seen it all in a

crowd: small town!

JM: had myself a ball in that

crowd: small town!

You can barely hear the crowd on that.

I was in the center section on the floor, nearly back to the sound boards, and what I heard was about a 50/50 mix of cheers and booing.

I've been a very strong Edwards supporter since I first saw him in '03. No one could want there to have been only cheers more than me.

32. MSNBC did a big deal on this Booing of Edwards...but the clip they played
didn't sound like anyone booing but loud cheering. I thought it odd at the time ...figuring they would play some snip or show someone singled out with a loud Booing...but they never did. So, i figured it was just more propaganda from them. Glad to know my gut instinct was correct. The RW must have sent the Talking Point over to MSNBC and told them to say it but no one could find the BOO so they just ran the clip and figured our ears would lie to us... :eyes:

37. The whole supposed booing has been stretch all out of proportion
to reality. Unless you were in the very small section of people who were booing, or wooing (it's hard to tell which it is) you wouldn't have even noticed. But of course the corporate media twists reality into the shape they want to see.

43. I was there...
I was there and could very much tell the booing came from all around the arena, not just my section. It was laughable. There was definitely more booing than cheering. And looking around, people were VERY unhappy to have Edwards interrupt their concert. The video has definitely been altered. Sure, the drunks in front may have been cheering, but the people there enjoying the concert definitely were NOT. Even the paper the next morning discussed the less than warm welcome Edwards received.

It's interesting to dissect this story from the first moment it was reported, to the way the blogosphere has approached it, to the you tube video, and now to round two of the attempt to mediate reality.
