BIden says he thinks Bush/Cheney went in for oil (duh) -- I've never heard him say this before...

1. I liked what Biden had to say and I agree. One question remains:
Why did Biden vote for the Iraq war resolution in the first place?

2. In defense of someone else who was charged with that (I think it was Clinton -
Biden was asked about her vote for the IWR) he said, she didn't vote for the war - none of us voted for the war. Bush ignored the parameters we agreed to and went ahead anyway. I'm LOOSLY paraphrasing. But the gist is they agreed to guidelines, Bush ignored them.

Which is why so many of them didn't fall for the same story when the Iran resolution came along.

I'd never heard him come out and say these things about oil and the administrations duplicity - but I'm not surprised he answered the question honestly and forthrightly. He's known for laying on the line and saying it like it is.

5. I'm sorry, but to me, that sounds like a cheap excuse.
As if Biden, with all his experience in politics, couldn't foresee what would happen if they voted for the Iraq War Resolution?

6. Okay. And apparently not (in answer to your question about Biden not
being able to foresee what would happen) otherwise he wouldn't have voted for it.

7. I think he did, but the thought it was better for his career to voted for it.

3. 2002
Had our government listened to Biden in 2002-3, the Iraq War never would have happened. Along with Senator Lugar, Biden introduced a resolution that would have allowed the President to use armed force only after all other options were exhausted--as in wait until the weapons inspectors find weapons and Hussein directly refuses to surrender them. Had we waited for the weapons inspectors to finish, we would have learned there were no WMDs and the whole discussion would have changed. Unfortunately, pressure from the White House helped the Lott-Lieberman-Gephardt resolution to pass instead. Biden went ahead and voted for it because he thought Powell had enough influence over the President to help the weapons inspectors prevail anyway. Like Edwards, he admits that was a mistake.

4. Thanks Gateley
I hadn't seen this one before. Wish I was in Iowa.
