17. Old Lyndon Johnson yarn:
Edited on Wed Nov-21-07 04:51 PM by shrdlu
During a campaign, LBJ instructed an aide to put it about that his opponent had carnal relations with swine, i.e, he f__ks pigs.

The aide protested. "Lyndon, we can't do that, you know it isn't true."

LBJ responded, "Yes, but let him deny it."

Perhaps apocryphal. But it fits.

A current deputy CHIEF of the NYFD, who's son was killed on 9/11, going after the TRUTH on the Giuliani 9/11 'hero' record! Whoohoo! I too am amazed to see this on CNN,. must have thought Wolf could twist it somehow,. guess that failed! I hope this guy keeps on it. . not sure it matters, how could anyone vote repug after this track record? Then again the ignorance levels in america are over the top too., so its all just a spin fest,. and Hillary or Obama or Edwards all look to be fascists-light and present no real change of our suicidal corp-military doomsday course.

13. I hope Rudy is the Repug nominee
The firefighters won't let this story die as long as Rudy is out there bragging about his 9/11 credentials. His whole campaign is based on this single issue. And if you throw in the Bernie Kerik story this guy's toast! I just wish the "swiftboat" term wasn't used. How dare CNN compare the firefighters who lost their brothers that day, to a bunch of well financed liars. The true meaning of "Swiftboat" deserves respect, but it's forever lost and it's truely a shame.

If Rudy somehow gets the R nomination, all hell will break loose. This guy has left a trail of incompetence, cronyism, and terrible judgment a mile wide! I hear that the wingnuts want to run against Hillary because they hate her so much. Well, I want us to run against Rudy. The amount of sleaze and slime associated with this guy is enough to fill the La Brea tar pits.

49. Wolfie's use of the term Swift Boat
Wolfie's use of term of the "Swift Boat" in some ways is a tactic admission that the SBVT actions against Kerry were lies. If he is trying to imply that the Fire Fighters are "Swift Boating" the Ghoul, then he is in essence saying they are spreading lies which in effect says the SBVT were doing the same to Kerry.

since his love nest command center was in the WTC he didn't know where to go and certainly didn't know what to do. He just happened to be the mayor on 9/11 and that's his only claim to fame. He was nothing before and he's nothing now but an egomaniac.

31. You know what calmed me down?
Nothing, I saw it for what it was, and no political figure getting his suit dirty for the first time on national tv will change it.

Rudi was warned to move out of his bunker, in his own statements he said so. He has since refused to say who warned him to move out.

I would trust him to do a good job for me, if I were planning a bank heist.

He was warned after the 1993 bombing of the towers. What did Giuliani do? He put it in the WTC complex. Idiotic. The second the attack started his command headquarters was already cut off.

39. His only claim to fame is that he remained relatively calm while
thousands of citizens of his city were dying. Since when is lack of empathy a positive character trait? Churchill used to cry in his car after visiting bombed out sections of London, I am relatively certain Hitler didn't cry about (or even bother to visit) bombed out cities in Germany.

44. I know this man
My husband knows him better. They're kind of related in an extended family sort of way and spent a lot of time together when they were young. Riches has two brothers who were firefighters, too. They're both retired now, but it's a NYFD family if ever there was one. He knows what he's talking about and if Guiliani had done a good job, there's no way Jimmy would be blaming him in any way for young Jimmy's death. I do wonder exactly how Guiliani & co plan on smearing these people, because you know they will if they get enough attention in the media.

47. He seems completely decent, and not a man to waste his own time caught up in stupid mischief.
People should reflect upon his point on Giuliani's dereliction of duty in not producing the necessary working radios needed so desperately by the firefighters, and requested with all possible earnestness since 1993. Not allowing them all the equipment they needed to protect themselves was criminal, and he had years and years to make that mistake over and over.

The police chief seems above reproach in this matter.

45. Most worth noting here is his criticism of Giuliani's appointments of top personnel
Appointing the right guy for the right job seems to be Giuliani's chief weakness. He has a Tammany approach to running the government. He appoints loyal people, his people, not the best and brightest, to top slots. It's an exploiter's world view.

Don't forget that Giuliani's biggest campaign problems have to do with corrupt or perverted croneys. He himself isn't a bad manager--keeping his head on 9/11 isn't a quality to be dismissed. He was like an illustration straight out of Rudyard Kipling's If. But being able to stay calm in a crisis isn't the only quality a leader needs. He needs a moral anchor. Specifically a successful president in democracy needs the ability to cut loose his staffers and subordinates when the popular will turns against keeping them on.

Rudy seems like a very narrow, limited man.

46. I agree about the appointments but disagree about his 9/11 performance
You write that "keeping his head on 9/11 isn't a quality to be dismissed." Similarly, cgrindley (in post #24 above) writes, "He really did calm the city down that day...."

Sorry, but I don't see it.

I think just about anyone who was Mayor of New York City on that day would have acted roughly the same way Giuliani did. You can't tell me that, if David Dinkins were still Mayor, or if Ruth Messinger had beaten Rudy in 1997, then he or she would have gone on TV and screamed, "The Muslims are coming! We're doomed! Run for your lives!"

Rudy gets credit for his alleged "leadership" for two main reasons. First, in times of crisis, people want to feel that someone is in charge, and none one else was on TV giving them that feeling. (Bush was flying around the country and Pataki was keeping a low profile.) Second, Rudy had been acting like an abrasive jerk for years, so when he temporarily repressed that tendency, he came off as being extraordinarily calm and responsible by comparison with his usual public persona.

51. 700 club woof blitzer
it'd be nice if the NYPD got their hands on that ass peddlar blitzer, i bet the Chief was thinking (woof doesn't mention his career is founded on his service to pat 'hitman' robertson's 700 club- see his resume)
a mention of blitzer's 700 club start should put woof blitzer and cnn/fuxnews in proper context
http://www.yuricareport.com/Media/OnPatRobertsonWolfeBlitzerAndDavidCorn.html
snip>
It’s scary to hear someone carry-on like Pat. But it’s sort of strange to realize that Pat and Wolf Blitzer go way back together. Yep! Wolf used to work for Pat Robertson's CBN way back when Pat was setting up his news bureau and Wolf was the 700 Club’s reporter from the Middle East. He was a lot younger in those days, but in those beginning days Pat exposed Wolf Blitzer to a viewing audience that topped the Nielsen ratings at 28.7 million monthly viewers! That’s a great way to launch one’s career. But Wolf Blitzer likes to keep that part of his career kind of quiet. He doesn’t list the 700 Club’s news bureau in his biography. He doesn’t tell CNN’s audience that Pat was like an angel to him when he was just an independent reporter starting out. But those of us who watched Pat’s show could never forget Wolf Blitzer’s reports. He was presented to us as such an expert—we were just so proud of him! And look how high he’s gone. You’d think he’d give Pat a little credit. No doubt he says “Thanks” by inviting him on CNN!
