I have watched as the lgbt community has suffered increasing indignity ,bigotry and prejudice.
I am appalled at the lengths some go to alienate our gay brothers and sisters."Pro-family is hate without the hood.I am fed up and angry at elections being run on hate.I am fed up with the pragmatic approach to gay rights. When is the right election cycle to bring this to the fore?
We need to hold our democratic candidates feet to the fire on gay rights. How many more Matthew Shepard and Harvey Milks do there have to be?

1. K&R! Harvey is dead on!
Full and complete citizen rights now! Not tomorrow, not next year, not when more fascists think it is ok; but right now. This is civil rights - exactly like the 50s and 60s - and we must demand it now.

4. Absolutely. Even our allies aren't really standing with us.
We're expected to be sad without being angry, and for the most part we've accomodated. x(

7. It's a perfect summary of MY disappointment with the HRC --
failure to get ENDA through without trans-insclusion has made ME very very angry.

When I see GLB stand up for T --then they can have the benefit of MY anger.

As is --I'll stay angry enough for all y'all.

8. When Martin Luther King was pushing Kennedy, during the bus
boycott, they tried to stall him by telling him, and all civil rights leaders, that the time wasn't right. That they only had to wait a few more years then it would be more acceptable. There are many parallels between the rhetoric used then and what is being used now.

13. Wow, well said!! He cuts to the heart of the issue for sure.
It's *essential* we speak out against bigotry and discrimination before it's too late! There is absolutely *NO* reason for laws banning marriage for anyone in the LGBT community, not in the least. The hate is fueled by ignorance, stupidity, and irrational fear. Stupid people are just too dumb to shut up when they publicly display their ignorance and that, unfortunately drowns out the quiet acceptance of all people that marks true understanding. But all people need to speak out against anti-gay rhetoric, all people.

14. YES!!
Well, said! Living in a prejudiced society, it is so easy to quietly internalize
the "standard" way of looking at one's minority-hood (if you will), and grow
meek and passive. If one really thinks about it, the political discourse is
absolutely unacceptably racist and homophobic, in the case of almost every
politician. Those of us who know have an obligation to take care of each
other and speak out, write out, act out!
