You comment on this OP is totally out of place - I'm going to ignore the same comment on one of my threads. Nice drive by - but you are dead wrong: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3925001

4. COME ON!!!!!!!
he was NOT his usual horrid self. I think he was extra smarmy and assy than usual in this segment! LOL

Seriously, he was a complete ass back to her, and she called him on his typical Obama/Hillary love. It's not just Tweety, but the entire MSM who ignores John, and frankly, if getting over 30% of the vote in Iowa doesn't grab their attention, then they're intentionally ignoring him as we all thought.

Olbermann I hope will speak up to someone about it at least in MSNBC's case.

3. thanks hissyspit!
I knew you'd get this up. Thanks, and I'm sure you noticed that the ENTIRE segment about the Democratic race that came a few minutes after this, no one mentioned Edwards for 5 minutes or so, until Chuck Todd talked about how the Obama camp was hoping Edwards would hold off Hillary show she'd finish 3rd... yeah, pathetic. He deserved at least 30 seconds of discussion in there about what Chuck and Joe Scarborough thought about his surprising 2nd place finish on message!

16. I love how the media try to subtly (or not so much) try to shape public opinion with their language
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 11:19 PM by ryanmuegge
I mean, not even when they are explicitly editorializing; even when they are reporting news.

It's very interesting to see watch it in action. Noam Chomsky is right about these things.

7. Tweety was horrible.
I hope that when MSNBC fires him and breaks his contract because he's too old or because he is a white male, the trial lawyers boycott his case. Trial lawyers are heroes for the poor and dispossessed. Without trial lawyers, insurance companies and rich insurance companies would rule the world. Sometimes the insurance companies and doctors are in the right. I attended a symposium some years ago at which an insurance company representative explained that the limitations on litigation and the caps on malpractice insurance in California (which are quite limiting) really did not lower the malpractice insurance rates much at all. The problem is not the litigation. One of the major motivations behind the litigation against doctors is that we don't have universal health insurance.

If your doctor makes a mistake and you face huge future medical bills because of it, and let's face it, doctors are human, or if you are injured and believe your doctor made a mistake, and face huge medical bills or potentially huge medical bills in the future, you have no safety net for paying your catastrophic medical bills. You have to sue. If we had universal healthcare and the health insurance had to cover conditions or illnesses caused by doctors' errors, the litigation against doctors would decrease dramatically. So doctors should support universal healthcare. Yes, a doctor who makes a serious mistake might still have to pay some emotional distress damages, but the impetus to sue would still be decreased. (I'm not talking to doctors who are reckless or who inflict harm intentionally. That's another story and hopefully rare.)

The reason Europe has so few lawsuits is that they have single payer universal health insurance. They don't have to worry about how they will pay their medical bills if they become disabled.

Anyway Tweety should be on the blacklist of all trial lawyers. If he needs help, tell him to take a walk. Trial lawyers work too hard to mess with the likes of him.

15. You hit the nail on the head about the correlation between
malpractice and universal health care. I never thought about it in those terms. Thanks.

17. But all of the big financial interests are largely off of the table
They raise hell over the trial lawyers, though! As you mention, god forbid any interest group that actually does some good for people outside of Wall Street have any influence on the political process.

The contrast is stunning.

19. That guy is about as ignorant as you can get. Read this about malpractice reform in Indianna
Crushed By My Own Reform

Frank Cornelius was a lobbyist who eventually committed suicide because of the medical malpractice limits placed on him.

Does Tweety just talk out of his ass or does he ever read anything?

In a 20 minute analysis of yesterday's caucus, Moyers did not mention Edwards name....NOT ONCE!

I could not be sure I hadn't dozed off and I couldn't bear to hear all the blather again on-line to check. His name was NEVER mentioned in the entire "analysis". Who was that women anyway? I have seen her before and I was wondering... you are important, why?

I don't know how she can stand it. This idiot is disgusting and demeaning. I wondered if he even realized that she was putting him in his place - he's so arrogant that he probably didn't even listen to her.

We love you, Elizabeth!

26. I feel sick now
That was brutal to watch. I'm referring to Matthews being a complete jerk (I'm tempted to use stronger language but won't).

I'm used to his stupid, shallow (and narrow) focus on aesthetics...the guy LOVES talking about BS ranging from what someone smells like to, well, as you saw in this clip, their smile.

But his comments on lawyers? Ah, it was infuriating! Did he have a Conservative Talking Points Mad Libs under his desk?!

33. i know, I was so disgusted watching it!
she was amazing and said the perfect thing to him "same song and dance"! I've never seen him worse than this - he's really got ZERO respect from me now, and he had little to begin with, but he had some, now none whatsoever. There are so many reasons why what he said was arrogant and ridiculous. The bartender comment was funny - been drinking a lot Tweety????

30. Give the man some Thereflu, already!
He was coughing throughout the interview. He was probably trying to give her, a cancer patient with a depressed immune system, his flu in hopes that she would die.

Not only give him Thereflu, make him wear one of those Japanese plague masks so he doesn't cough all over everybody.

When doctors commit malpractice, people ought to just let it go because doctors are automatically "the good guys?"

How idiotic.
