I was skeptical at first, but upon seeing the video it does look like they were harassing our ships, even if we shouldn't be there in the first place.

Thoughts?

"The Pentagon releases footage filmed from the USS Hopper showing Iranian boats heading towards the vessel as well as an audiotape of radio communications."

1. Russia did the same thing with us during The Cold War. China STILL does it with us.
China has even surfaced a submarine, undetected, right smack in the middle of one of our naval exercises a few weeks ago.

We need to get over it.

4. It seems that the video part is real
The radio conversation? Sure. The same way that the most recent bin Laden video was authentic, complete with still images and convenient dialog.

5. What's their beef with the U.S. Navy?
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 11:58 AM by W T F
It's not like the U.S Navy shot down one of their airliners full of innocent civilians or anything like that?

6. harassing our ships?
How far away are those boats supposed to stay according to International Maritime Law?

IMO, it didn't look like they got close enough for it to be harassment.

Five small boats began charging the U.S. ships, dropping boxes in the water in front of the ships and forcing the U.S. ships to take evasive maneuvers, said the Pentagon official. The boxes floated by, and officials said they didn't now what was in them because U.S. sailors didn't pick them up.

Where are the "boxes" in the video?

Around here people on jet skis 'harass' foreign tankers on their way to Chicago all summer long. Is homeland security gonna come after us?

8. You can't believe anything that comes out of the U.S. military
Hang on, let me see if I get this, our Military has a history of lying and covering things up, and not showing us any video of any of the wars they are engaged in, unless they show us looking brave or shooting at something no one can see, and then they suddenly release a video and were supposed to believe this one. No sir, I'm not buying it.

9. The guy making the threats sounds like someone goofing off on the ship
The "middle eastern" accent sounds fake but if these transmissions are true I would check for a marine radio on the us ship perhaps a crew member brought one on board.

10. Which part of that
"looks like they were harassing our ships?" R U kidding?

And while we're at it, how do we know those were Iranian boats? I didn't see any flags or military markings. I didn't see any weapons.

So we have a giant naval fleet cruising back and forth off the coast of Iran, and we have the audacity to make claims of harassment. America has gone insane.

11. We went insane a long time ago, right around 2003 I imagine.
Something that later occurred to me as well was the fact that whoever was broadcasting the message didn't have any motor, sea spray, or US vessel noise in the background of his transmission.

I'm awaiting the announcement that the audio was a "bad-apple" prank by some disgruntled crew member.
