2. I love how Obama responds to Hillary's line about "false hopes"
The Clinton campaign is pushing the idea that Obama is offering "false hopes".

Remember what Hillary said in last weekend's debate on ABC:
"We don't need to be raising the false hopes of our country about what can be delivered"

last night that the speech was great until Obama mentioned the unmentionable "false hopes". I said he had every right to bring it up after all the slimeslingin' by the clintons.

28. Obama made a cool joke about "false hope" on Good Morning America
You can picture JFK saying "We can't go to the moon. It's a false hope. Let's get a reality check."

The video is still up on the ABC News website http://abcnews.go.com/

34. Yes, we can! Hope, Change
ok, great about the slogans and inspiring words (all three of them) now tell us exactly about the changes, etc.

I keep thinking that what Obama is saying is the he "Hopes" their will be "Change" but until I see specifics...

When I listen to him I feel an urge to buy a used car...

Show me the money!!!

I do like Obama and I know many here will be upset at my comments but he has not come up with any specifics, his political record is not very good as voting "present" does not show leadership, that is the same word all high school students have to repeat when the teacher is taking list, and where are the specifics of his changes? Is he just hoping he will improvise a few?

Not sure if anyone caught up with what happened during the repubs debate the other day; when they were asked about Obama they all drew a smile and began to talk about his inexperience, and other flaws with his record, they looked hungry for a few minutes.

You don't think experience is necessary? To fight the sharks of the repub party and all the other sharks around the World you need plenty of experience. I would rather see Clinton, Dodd or Biden get the nomination, I feel that Obama is a good salesman but too green for even a showing in November.

35. Well, Dodd and Biden are out of it now - Richardson too...
We're left with three viable candidates, all of whom will bring various kinds of change if elected, all of whom have had valuable life experiences that will serve them well.

Personally, I'll support whomever gets the nod. My big concern is getting enough votes to override those lost to Republican dirty tricks ~ that's the reason for my GOTV shop at cafepress. If Obama's movement results in great inspiration matched by great numbers of indie votes, that's a big plus for us.

7. "Yes We Can" ?
Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 07:08 PM by DianaForRussFeingold
We've had thirty years of Hillary's change--look where that's brought us...

In 2006 we did BELIEVE,,, there would, be CHANGE!

We've, had eight long years, to HOPE for change!

While Obama is an inspiring, powerful and charismatic speaker,
I'm concerned he's just another pushover, for big Corporations, as they have contributed heavily, to his candidacy...

The corporate media is aiming against Edwards, who threatens their strangle hold--
MSM's obvious agenda -- marginalize Edwards and his message...

We can hope for change all we want, but sometimes, HOPE, is not enough!
If Edwards is the next President of the United States.
He will take on out of control Corporations,
as did FDR...

Barack Obama: "Yes We Can" I do believe he can, but-- "John Edwards will!"

"John Edwards has a sincere deep passion for his support of the middle class, like no other..."
just sayin!:blush:

Thanks for inquiring, Sorry, I've been kind of busy and the computer is running, slow!
Here is John Edward's position-
-- "Edwards' Major Announcement: I Will Ban Corporate Lobbyists And Foreign Government Lobbyists From My White House"

"John Edwards will ban anyone who has worked as a corporate lobbyist or has lobbied for a foreign government from working in an Edwards Administration. Edwards is proud to be the only presidential candidate who has never taken a dime from any Political Action Committee or Washington lobbyist, because he's determined to be a voice for regular families like the ones he grew up with." :hi:

25. HE HAD TELEPROMPTERS
That was the first thng the media pointed out. Notice the pauses and the constant looking back and forth. The people are seated higher than the podium yet he keeps looking down the left then down the right. He did have teleprompters!

Beautiful and ispiring but anyone can hope and prey, we've been doin it for 8 long years, we need a fighter, not a speech writer. John Edwards will do that, always has, always will!

Obama will go where the money is, always has, always will! Just ask his wife how much she made at her NOT FOR PROFIT hospital last year, a hospital that charges non insured patients more than they charge insured patients. Think about that, who is getting the break, people or the insurance companies? Then ask about that bonus she got from the NON PROFIT FOOD BANK!

For Obama it's about his big EGO and MONEY! Don't wait until it's to late to figure that out, don't be swooshed over by a fancy salesman highered by and payed for by the corporate elitest just because he has fancy words. Look for substance in his policies people!

19. Thanks for posting. I missed it last night. Wow. Absolutely incredible.
This is the speech of someone who LOST???? You almost can't tell, except for the beginning. I did watch Hillary's speech, and she started out really well, and then resorted to the yelling. I just can't understand people voting for her over Obama. Hope starts with TALKING ABOUT IT, and that is what Bill Clinton did in 1992. Americans want to be inspired, not told about "false hope". I really think that if Obama digs deep, he can win this thing. He loses a state with grace, and that is important, because it shows his strength of perseverence.

On to Nevada ... and come Super Tuesday, I will be voting in my first ever presidential primary for Barack Obama.

Yes we can was chanted victory night for Governor Deval Patrick and he gave many speeches very similar to this one from Obama stated "Together we can" and "Yes we can". I wonder if they have the same political consultants?

22. That was the speech for someone certain of victory, until
they suddenly realized they had lost. The speech was probably already loaded in the teleprompter. They quickly revised the very beginning and the remainder was clearly his victory speech. I suspect that Obama and staff were completely blindsided by the election results and had to rush the rewrite and get it loaded in the teleprompter. (I wonder if they actually reloaded an updated version of the entire speech. Probably so; in the past, it took quite a while to load.) From what I can tell, Obama really needs the teleprompter to be effective and is disappointing otherwise.

Obama's speech was incredible. I really like all of the democratic candidates. What a group of collective souls! I know that only one candidate will be selected for the nomination, but I pray that all of the candidates remember each other when they are filling up their cabinet. This is an amazing group of individuals and they all have a place in my heart.

29. CNN TRANSCRIPT of at least a large part of the speech, w/link

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0801/08/acd.01.html

OBAMA: Thank you. Thank you, guys. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Oh, thank you, New Hampshire. I love you back. Thank you. Thank you. Well, thank you so much. I am still fired up and ready to go. Thank you. Thank you.

Well, first of all, I want to congratulate Senator Clinton on a hard-fought victory here in New Hampshire. She did an outstanding job. Give her a big round of applause.

You know, a few weeks ago, no one imagined that we'd have accomplished what we did here tonight in New Hampshire. No one could have imagined it. For most of this campaign, we were far behind. We always knew our climb would be steep. But in record numbers, you came out. And you spoke up for change. And with your voices and your votes, you made it clear that at this moment, in this election, there is something happening in America.

There is something happening when men and women in Des Moines and Davenport in Lebanon and Concord come out in the snows of January to wait in lines that stretch block after block because they believe in what this country can be. There is something happening.

There's something happening when Americans who are young in age and in spirit, who have never participated in politics before, turn out in numbers we have never seen, because they know in their hearts that this time must be different.

There's something happening when people vote, not just for a party that they belong to but the votes -- the hopes that they hold in common. Whether we are rich or poor, black or white, Latino or Asian, whether we hail from Iowa or New Hampshire, Nevada, or South Carolina, we are ready to take this country in a fundamentally new direction. That's what's happening in America right now. Change is what's happening in America
.
<snip -- cheering>

OBAMA: You -- all of you who are here tonight, all who put so much heart and soul and work into this campaign, you can be the new majority who can lead this nation out of a long political darkness. Democrats, independents and Republicans who are tired of the division and distraction that has clouded Washington, who know that we can disagree without being disagreeable. Who understand -- who understand that if we mobilize our voices to challenge the money and influence that stood in our way and challenge ourselves to reach for something better, there is no problem we cannot solve. There is no destiny that we cannot fulfill.

Our new American majority can end the outrage of unaffordable, unavailable health care in our time. We can bring -- we can bring doctors and patients, workers and businesses, Democrats and Republicans together, and we can tell the drug and insurance industry that while they get a seat at the table, they don't get to buy every chair. Not this time. Not now.

Our new majority can end the tax breaks for corporations that ship our jobs overseas and put a middle class tax cut in the pockets of working Americans who deserve it.

We can stop sending our children to schools with corridors of shame and start putting them on a pathway to success. We can stop talking about how great teachers are and start rewarding them for their greatness by giving them more pay and more support.

We can do this with our new majority. We can harness the ingenuity of farmers and scientists, citizens and entrepreneurs to free this nation from the tyranny of oil and save our planet from a point of no return.

And when I am president of the United States, we will end this war in Iraq and bring our troops home.

<snip>

OBAMA: We will end this war in Iraq. We will bring our troops home. We will finish the job. We will finish the job against al Qaeda in Afghanistan. We will care for our veterans. We will restore our moral standing in the world.

And we will never use 9/11 as a way to scare up votes, because it is not a tactic to win an election. It is a challenge that should unite America and the world against the common threats of the 21st century: terrorism and nuclear weapons, climate change and poverty, genocide and disease.

All of the candidates in this race share these goals. All of the candidates in this race have good ideas. And all are patriots who serve this country honorably. But the reason our campaign has always been different, the reason we began this improbable journey almost a year ago is because it's not just about what I will do as president. It is also about what you, the people who love this country, the citizens of the United States of America, can do to change it.

That's what this election is all about. That's why tonight belongs to you. It belongs to the organizers and the volunteers and the staff who believed in this journey and rallied so many others to join the cause.

We know the battle ahead will be long. But always remember that, no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics. They will only grow louder and more dissent in the weeks and months to come. We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope. But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

For when we have faced down impossible odds, when we've been told we're not ready or that we shouldn't try or that we can't, generations of Americans have responded with a simple creed that sums up the spirit of a people. Yes, we can. Yes, we can. Yes, we can.

<snip>

OBAMA: It was a creed written into the founding documents that declared the destiny of a nation. Yes, we can. It was whispered by slaves and abolitionists as they blazed a trail towards freedom through the darkest of nights. Yes, we can.

It was sung by immigrants as they struck out from distant shores and pioneers who pushed westward against an unforgiving wilderness. Yes, we can. It was the call of workers who organized, women who reached for the ballot, a president who chose the moon as our new frontier and a King who took us to the mountaintop and pointed the way to the promised land. Yes, we can to justice and equality.

<snip>

OBAMA: Yes, we can to opportunity and prosperity. Yes, we can heal this nation. Yes, we can repair this world. Yes, we can. And so, tomorrow, as we take the campaign south and west, as we learn that the struggles of the textile workers in Spartanburg are not so different than the plight of the dishwasher in Las Vegas, that the hopes of the little girl who goes to the crumbling school in Dillon are the same as the dreams of the boy who learns on the streets of L.A.
