2. Sorry it's firewalled.
He's been to Iraq without security. He's been to Iran without security. He has an inspired world view.

He quotes his 15 year old daughter.

It's powerful.

Watch it if you can from elsewhere and pssssssssssst. . . he's not running.

Just a socially concerned citizen really.

But he has a powerful voice.

6. You really thought I was serious?
Just watching that video made me think about how nice it would be to have leadership that was reverential and informed about people of other cultures instead of the ignorant bellicosity and unenlightened shadow projection we've had to endure for so long.

I think a lot about the thousands of qualified people a lot in terms of those who would never desire to enter the political arena at all given its inherent nastiness.

It's really too bad.

I heard recently that in wolf packs, dominance is established by the wolf who initiates and inspires play the best. Wish we could be more like them.

7. Who cares if he was a violent husband?
From wikipedia:

Penn's personal life began to attract media attention when he married pop star Madonna in 1985. The relationship was marred by violent outbursts against the press, including one incident for which he was arrested for beating a photographer. Madonna dedicated her third studio album, True Blue to Penn, referring to him in the liner notes as "the coolest guy in the universe". Later in the marriage, Penn was charged with felony domestic assault, a charge for which he pleaded to a misdemeanor. Penn and Madonna divorced in 1989.

8. Well I didn't know about that.
I guess I wasn't paying attention to celebrity stuff then and rarely do now.

He could always find God like * supposedly did and say "when I was young and irresponsible, I was young and irresponsible." It worked for *.

9. I like his acting and his politics
I believe that people can change. Even people who used to be violent.

But it's not exactly a big plus for a political candidate!

10. I was just goofing around with the title of this thread really
and explained that up thread.

I wouldn't doubt that was probably the most volatile dynamic of both of their lives really.

All I remember was that they made a movie together and it was a HUGE flop. That couldn't have helped. While she could maintain her musical career, acting had been his primary profession. A bad movie is more often perceived as a potential career ender, whereas a spotty album is seemingly less so.

Though things have changed a whole lot since then.

Aaand No I'm not rationalizing that violence is ever okay. Just speculating on what contributing factors might have been involved in terms of what transpired.
