The rebels who started the civil war in Sierra Leone 15 years
ago wanted only one thing: to reclaim the richness of the
country from foreign corporations in order to end the
exploitation of its people. In response, the international
community decided to wage a war on this country, with bombs,
executions, torture, rigged elections and manipulation of the
international media. This created one of the worst
humanitarian disasters of the 20th century.
The Hollywood feature film, ‘Blood Diamond’ will be opening in
theatres on December 8th, already embroiled in a scandal
denouncing the diamond industry and its role in fomenting
civil wars in Africa. That shouldn’t come as a surprise.
Hopefully everybody already knows by now that most of European
and US conglomerates involve themselves in Third World
countries for financial profits with very little or no respect
for the life of the people living there.
Everyone should see "The Empire in Africa". Movie
reviews have been raving about it.
The film opens December 8th in New York, Los Angeles, and
