Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-AIPAC) made a surprise! surprise! trip to Iraq yesterday. He told heavily armored reporters trailing in his wake, "What I see here today is progress, significant progress." Ah, yes. So, here's another one. Another delusional US Senator (think McCain) who chooses feigned ignorance and willful deception over obvious truth and clear evidence as he wanders giddily into the maw of agony. Guided through the streets of a Baghdad neighborhood (inside the Green Zone? Outside the Green Zone?) in this blood-soaked, nexus of death and misery and torture - gifts to the Iraqis by the citizens of the United States of America - Holy Joe declaimed his satisfaction with the slaughter and the endless destruction. "Progress," he called it.

Is there some supernatural mouth or beak or gullet that swallows these ugly American politicians cum tourists who glide by with their military escorts? Some not understood time/space warp that momentarily engulfs them and bends their minds into a kaleidoscopic flash of happy children playing, shoppers having tea, cars whizzing merrily by, plants and flowers growing in the streets' medians, stringed music floating out of a nearby bistro? Does this altered reality cover sufficiently the blood-drenched streets, the severed human limbs, the snipers, the screams of mothers wailing over the smashed bodies of their ten-year-old daughters, the thumping agony of car-bombs and roadside explosive devices exploding and sending another curtain of human blood cascading into the gutters . . .?

It must.

Later, after Holy Joe was back inside whatever well-protected envelope the US military provides for these touring war-freaks, he was approached by several soldiers who, according to McClatchy Newspapers, asked this deluded US Senator, "When are we going to get out of here?" Lieberman responded to the anxious question with the cowardly, sickening answer all right-wing war-lovers use regarding our leaving Iraq: "If we go it will be a victory for al-Qaida and Iran."

Holy Joe then boarded the specially equipped military jet provided dignitaries such as US Senators for the long flight home.

continence, and I waited as long as I could to put her down, and I don't have a dog to this day. I guess I just don't think that I could go through that again. I've had to put cats down, too, but I still take them in, adopt them, etc.

Mr. tnlefty had never been allowed to be around cats in his youth, and the first cat that we jointly took care of he loved and she was crazy about him. When I had to take her to the vet to have her put down after she was ill, he was just crushed!

Don't worry about boring me, I'm always good for animal stories, then again, I can entertain myself fairly well, too! :evilgrin:

It's heartbreaking when they have to go....

but then another little life comes to us for care. That's how I've come to see all my cat rescue work. LuLu is very special. I can't let her go yet, I'll know--she'll tell me.

I had an 18 y/o who was never sick. I told her to please let me know when she was ready to go over the rainbow bridge. Do you believe it!! She got cancer of the jaw and I noticed right away her little face. It was too far advanced to operate and her age, etc. She was showing me that she was done here. OMG I still get chills thinking about her. She was the love of my life. Even the vet said that she knew that Miss Pea told her she was ready.

They speak to us if we just listen and learn how to talk to them.

So I don't think LuLu is quite ready yet. But I told her to let me know.....

I've taken strays into the vet's office, paid to have them them tested for whatever was making them ill, and if the test results weren't good, I'd take them back to have them euthanized. Please don't think that I take that procedure lightly, as the vet was always astounded that I would shell out the money for the tests, for meds to try to get them better, and when it couldn't happen, I stayed and petted animals, talked to them when they were euthanized, and then brought them 'home' to bury them.

The last time that I had to do this with a stray, the vet was in tears thanking me for caring enough...
