Gas prices and foods/goods prices: Is gas driving the economy into the ground?

I was in KMart buying cleaning items and general household stuff and everything seems higher. The detergent was about $2 more, bathroom tissue higher than I remember. At the grocery store, there was an $18 steak turning brown. Not to mention both places looked like ghost towns. I shop in the evening at about 6 or 7 pm so maybe it was the time of day. I think that gas prices have a lot to do with this. I don't think America can sustain $4 gas prices anytime soon. The economy will bottom out.

1. Oh, things can get a hell of a lot worse. And they will......
Thanks to GWB, who has wasted years and $$$ and oil, rather than targeting dependence on fossil fuels as the greatest threat EVER to the US, which it is, IMHO.

He's still chasing Osama instead of funding alternatives. What a moran.

3. Fuel costs are a good 'excuse' but I believe the NOTICEABLY...........
higher prices that continue to escalate are purely a HUGE money grab by corporate america. The end of the bushco/rethug enabled economic corporate free-for-all is rapidly heading for the brick wall at 120 mph and the brakes have failed. The corporations are grabbing for the last time before the inevitable crash.

4. It's hurting the economy
but not to the point of bottoming out.

BTW, KMart always looks like a ghost town since Walmart moved into the neighborhood

5. Notice how it works so well...
Gas prices are high! We're raising costs to compensate.

Gas prices fall. <crickets... chirp chirp>

The price of a soda at McDonald's has nearly doubled in the last couple of years. How much has it gone up at the grocery store? Not a fraction of that.

6. Meanwhile, inside the White House
David Brooks on the Lehrer Newshour tonight said a White House source told him that "Bush feels liberated by his unpopularity." Nothing left to lose, so he doesn't give a .... anymore. You fill in the appropriate four letter word (and remember Bush is a four letter word.)
