There is a Hospice concept of realistic hope.

Facing a terminal illness, especially as the prospect of death becomes more personally and medically clearer, there is always room for hope.

Many people going through the end of their lives seem to hold out hope - for pain relief, for some simple pleasures with loved ones, for some resolution to unfinished business. And some find hope in having the means to 'call it' at some point, even if they never choose to do so.

Most think about it, though few make that choice.

My point is to support that option for many who have seen their options dwindle, whose pain relief has become inadequate, who make a clear choice about quality of life over quantity.

Hope is a very human condition, as well as death.

That's realistic and understandable as far as I can see.
