VFW backs vet in trouble over protest
VFW backs vet in trouble over protest
By SAM HANANEL
Associated Press Writer

June 1, 2007.

The nation's largest combat veterans group on Friday urged the military to "exercise a little common sense" and call off its investigation of a group of Iraq war veterans who wore their uniforms during anti-war protests.

"Trying to hush up and punish fellow Americans for exercising the same democratic right we're trying to instill in Iraq is not what we're all about," said Gary Kurpius, national commander of the 2.4 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars.

"Someone in the Marine Corps needs to exercise a little common sense and put an end to this matter before it turns into a circus," Kurpius said.

Marine Cpl. Adam Kokesh had already received an honorable discharge from active duty before he was photographed in March wearing fatigues - with military insignia removed - during a mock patrol with other veterans protesting the Iraq war.

1. Military should be investigating the shortages of food and armour
That's were an investigation needs to be done... This is just plain wrong....

2. When even the VFW supports Adam,
it makes the Marines look even sillier.

3. Finally, something I can praise the VFW for. This evens out my phone call
to the American Legion headquarters about THEIR national commander's accusing EDWARDS of "politicizing" Memorial Day, while the commander went on to hawk his own agenda to urge continuing the Iraq Attack policies.

(The receptionist supposedly took down my comments and supposedly passed them on up above, yeah.)

4. Anytime a vet wears his/her uniform at ANY political event,
they are violating this rule. That means that when the repukes have the vets show up at their pro-war rallies, those vets are in violation.

Glad the VFW saw the stupidity in going after Adam.

5. Wait a minute, he's NOT ACTIVE duty. He's not bound by military regs anymore.
Countless vets and just plain others wear military surplus.

But I vociferously object to military decorations being used politically--like the Medal of Honor holders wearing their medals at Shrub's t.v. event during the 2000 coup.

6. According to the Marine Corps,
Marines cannot wear their uniforms to any political events, even if they have been discharged.

Anyone else remember all the times dubya has spoken and the audience was full of military - in their uniforms??
