News hidden by the JFK plot/Dem Debate: Putin threatens to target Europe with missiles
In 1990, when the US and the USSR became friends and started dismanteling nuclear weapons, we wondered how long peace could last.

In 2007, Putin has threatened to restore the Cold War standoff. This is a real threat. The US would have no choice but to respond to such a threat.

Yet, no one is talking about it. Instead, we have the Democratic Debate and the JFK Terrorists (for Fox viewers).

Exclusive: Putin threatens to target Europe

Globe and Mail Update

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened to target Europe with missiles, including potentially nuclear weapons, in a dramatic escalation of his Cold War-style showdown with the United States.

Mr. Putin, in an interview at his country residence outside Moscow, said he considers U.S. plans to build an eastern European anti-missile site to shoot down Iranian missiles a provocation aimed at Russia.

Asked what he might do to retaliate, he said he would return Russia to the Cold War status where missiles were aimed at European targets.

"It is obvious that if part of the strategic nuclear potential of the United States is located in Europe, and according to our military experts will be threatening us, we will have to respond," he said.

1. I would expect that their weapons systems can be programmed for hundreds of targets
And the missile control officers would just pick one of the files/tapes/cartridges that they have been ordered to download before launch.

Note that the Russians are talking about targeting the anti-missile sites in Eastern Europe. They would be stupid not to have targeting capability for those sites.

The republicans withdrawing from the antiballistic missile treaty in 2002 was uncalled for. It made relations worse with the rest of the world. ABM systems are destabilizing in the respect that give our opposition all the more motivation for a massive launch of missiles instead of just firing one missile at a time.

2. This will nicely set the tone for the G8 talks in Germany this week
...June 6-8, 2007. as the leaders of Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States sit down to discuss what exactly? Peace? Trade? Cooperation? Or will it be all about war?

3. The US started it.
The US withdrew from the ABM treaty, the cornerstone of detente. The US wants hegemony and unipolar world order; naturally, Russia won't go along with that. The US started this...

4. NPR covered it.
Not with the huge, red fonts, though.
