We've screwed ourselves: Just taking a look at the War Powers Resolution....
In passing the Iraq War Resolution the Congress has screwed us. WE can't even invoke the War Powers Resolution...

Dig sec. 5 - B

"....(b) Within sixty calendar days after a report is submitted or is required to be submitted pursuant to section 4(a)(1), whichever is earlier, the President shall terminate any use of United States Armed Forces with respect to which such report was submitted (or required to be submitted), unless the Congress (1) has declared \cf2 war\cf0 or has enacted a specific authorization for such use of United States Armed Forces,..."

Did those who voted for the war (both Dem and rethug) not understand this?
Not care?
Or just not read it?

1. Yes to all of your questions.
Votes based on passion, ignorance, and appeal to the constituents (read, voters).

3. Wait, the one from the 70's?
By the way, it's 90 days if he asks for an extension...and this was written in a time when our army was very WWII, i.e. armor and infantry. It used to take 90 days just to get to a battlefield.

Imagine what a president could do to a country now, in 90 days, with our modern warfare technology. That Act was made irrelevant when stealth fighters became part of the mix.

4. Correction: We haven't screwed oursellves. Our own Congress has attempted to screw us.
The only way for us to effectively fight back is mobilizing locally throughout the entire nation and essentially stop paying our taxes.

What other option is there?

5. I specifically remember Kerry screaming about this..he said pissy pants never came back to congress
in the 60 days..he never followed his obligations to congress he never did send a report to congress and this was within a week of pissy pants starting the war!!

Kerry was furious..

and the rethug congress just ignored the 60 days..

then 3 days after pissy pants started this war of lies..he then went to congress ..3 days after he started the war..it was never declared a war by congress.

8. That resolution has very dubious constitutionality.
Which is why it's never been enforced. Every President has immediately repudiated the bill as unconstitutional, and most constitutional lawyers would agree - it violates separation of powers.

9. Wouldn't NOT enforcing be a violation of checks and balances?

10. If Congress wants to sue for enforcement, they can.
But they likely won't win, so it's better to at least keep it on the books as a threat.
