http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2007/6/5/184710/6613Univision has scheduled two prime-time debates in September. A Democratic one on September 9th, and a Republican one on September 16th. Invitations were apparently just sent out to the candidates.
The debates will be in Miami, and 100 percent in Spanish (a first). Univision is the fifth largest national network, and in many markets, it's the top-rated television station.
With Florida being an early primary state (having leapfrogged ahead of the national primary into late January), and with the growing importance of the Latino vote, it's a debate that candidates will be hard pressed to miss. Well, maybe except for Gravel, too busy talking about English being an "official" language and all.
For the Democrats it's a no-brainer. But for the Republicans? Talk about quandary. It might be an easy one to skip, given their hostility to immigration and the Spanish language, not to mention the REAL hostility their presence might generate from their base (answering questions asked in Spanish!).
This is long overdue...and will be worth a few shots of Chinaco to see Tancredo and Hunter attempt to babble.
Cheers...
