Venezuela's Chavez risks alienating key poor voters
CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters): Yulbis Rodriguez is grateful to President Hugo Chavez for putting health and education programs in her poor Caracas slum of Cota 905, but she is also upset by what he has taken away -- her favorite television station.

The 24-year-old mother of two has stopped watching TV since Chavez closed the RCTV station that she relied on for news, soap operas and comedies for as long as she can remember.

"Chavez has done a lot of good things -- the clinics, the social programs ... but I really do not agree with them closing that station," she said in her modest home, where the sound of salsa music has replaced television broadcasts.

way we can in connection with Chavez so the feeble minded are brainwashed with the association. Remember that Castro was once a revolutionary who wanted change for Cuba. Americans and even some movie stars joined his revolutionaries in the fight. When he overthrew the Sugar Cane oligarchy in Cuba he found himself in a geo-political vise between the two super powers, the USA and Russia. Since the USA wouldn't leave him alone let alone help him to consolidate his new Republic, he had to turn to the Russians for aid, a marriage made in Hell. It made Castro into whom is today. I believe when Chavez calls Castro his mentor he means he admires him for being able to defy the USA all these years and still remain alive, not that he wants to turn Venezuela into Cuba.

Also, there are plenty of soap operas for that probably fictional woman to watch on other stations. He didn't shut down the whole media just one station of their Fox News version RCTV. I wish we would shut Fox down here. Both break the laws and spread disinformation, the big difference is that RCTV propagandized against Chavez. Fox News propagandizes for Bush. Neither are useful outlets of unbiased journalism. When we get a Democrat elected to the White House you will see Fox News turn into RCTV trying to bring down that President.

7. Liberty is always more valuable than life...

because a life without liberty is no life at all.

What has been stolen from these people is more valuable than a silly TV station, but the ability to chose whether or not to watch the TV station.
