New Justice Dept. Emails Reveal Top Rove Aides’ Involvement In Attorney Scandal
http://thinkprogress.org/2007/06/12/new-justice-dept/

Justice Department documents released tonight include new emails linking Karl Rove’s top aides — former White House political director Sara Taylor, who resigned last month, and her deputy Scott Jennings — to the U.S. attorney scandal. Subpoenas have been authorized, but not approved, for both Taylor and Jennings.

The emails, from February 2007, all relate to the case of Rove-protege Tim Griffin, who was installed as U.S. attorney in Arkansas without Senate confirmation. Griffin’s predecessor, Bud Cummins, was fired to make way for Griffin.

(snip)

The messages from Taylor and Jennings to the Justice officials are sent from their Republican National Committee email accounts. They provide new evidence that senior White House officials were intimately involved in the attorney scandal, and that the White House was still interested in installing Griffin as U.S. Attorney even after the controversy over the firings had become public.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) said in a statement tonight:

These documents, which should have been released by the Department long ago, provide further evidence that White House officials like former Political Director Sara Taylor were deeply involved in the mass firings of well-performing prosecutors. The Department of Justice should not be reduced to a political arm of the White House. We need an end to the White House’s stonewalling of our investigations so we can learn the truth.

1. Subpoenas have been authorized, but not approved, for both Taylor and Jennings.
And that is how far it will go, I fear.

Bluster, threat, and capitulation seems to be our strategery for success.

9. If these e-mails were just released today, I'd give them a bit of time
to get the subpoenas together.

3. Why were these not released before?
They seem to clearly fall within the scope of the previous requests -- how can they continue to get away with dribbling these out like they do???

There are emails in here between Sampson and Harriet Meiers -- I don't recall Sampson being very forthcoming during his testimony about the involvement of Harriet.

WTF???

God, does it ever stop?

5. Of course, the "Oath Induced Amnesia" took away that part of his memory.
You know somewhere Rove is laughing his ass off at how long it's taking to investigate this. The White House is purposefully stalling to get closer to January '09 when all of this stuff won't matter anymore.

6. All the emails could have been siezed by Congress by
confiscating the computers and checking the Hard Drives. Why wasn't this done?

By passing the Govt. Servers to send emails is illegal. No one has been charged for doing this.

7. Indeed it is. If it is in any way official government business...
then it must be on a government computer and preserved, if it is complete politics then it must be on a private system.

10. This was part of the stonewalling, would be my guess, til they couldn't do
it anymore.

4. Ruh-roh Rover.
Bad dog, go sit in the corner!

But seriously, I'm not surprised they are rationing out these e-mails, would anyone with common sense expect a criminal to just willingly admit to their crimes if they were under no threat of prosecution? Who knows if all of this stuff is real either, these things could have been faked for all we know.

8. Pages 11-16 are emails between Meiers and Sampson
Now, didn't the DOJ deny that the WH was involved in any way?

Isn't this cold hard proof that they were lying?

What are we waiting for?
