Lieberman equates Iran with Nazi Germany/Hitler.
Edited on Thu Jun-14-07 10:49 PM by calteacherguy
US Senator Joe Lieberman defended himself Wednesday from criticism that he is pressing for war with Iran, telling The Jerusalem Post he merely wants to strengthen US diplomacy with a credible threat of force.

After Lieberman told CBS's Face the Nation Sunday that the US had to be prepared to use "aggressive military action" against Iran because of its behavior in Iraq, he faced a barrage of criticism that he was warmongering.

Zbigniew Brzezinski, former president Jimmy Carter's national security adviser, said political leaders such as Lieberman, "echoed by some powerful lobbyists, are actually at the moment pushing the military option."

<snip>

"This is a very serious situation," Lieberman said. "We've learned from history - from Hitler, from bin Laden - that what Hitler said in the '30s that he was going to do, he actually tried to do, that what bin Laden said he was going to do, he actually tried to do."

Edit: If you have not yet already, please help fight back against powerful lobbyists and misguided politicians pushing for war with Iran by signing the petition at http://www.stopiranwar.com and urge your friends and family to do likewise.

"Cannot the world’s most powerful nation deign speak to the resentful and scheming regional power that is Iran? Can we not speak of the interests of others, work to establish a sustained dialogue, and seek to benefit the people of Iran and the region? Could not such a dialogue, properly conducted, begin a process that could, over time, help realign hardened attitudes and polarizing views within the region? And isn’t it easier to undertake such a dialogue now, before more die, and more martyrs are created to feed extremist passions? War is not the answer." -Wes Clark

1. Well, they execute gays and recently, they're targeting porn stars...

So they've got a start on it. But that doesn't mean we should attack.

4. And Lieberman's B.S. rhetoric equates to Stalin or, well, Bush II....
Can't we get the esteemed senator (who bears a disturbing resemblance to Mr. Burns of The Simpsons) a one way ticket out to the space station?

7. No question: Butler was a true hero. He saved the country from a coup.

But he was also a staunch Republican, back when both parties believed in defending the Constitution. (Imagine that!)
I think we can elect a hero, who's also a diehard Democrat. The two aren't mutually exclusive, you know.

Oh, and to get things back on topic: Lieberman is both a threat and an embarrassment, much like his kissy buddy in the White House.

8. Lieberman your tired rhetoric is sick and you are the one who
has not learned from history. Or maybe you've learned too well by supporting the tactics of the Nazis yourself. Shame on you. We have had enough of your garbage.

9. Has Joe ever taken a class in International Relations?
The two situations are in no way comparable. In the 1930's there was no superpower (especially with the US not in the League of Nations) that could successfully impose sanctions on Germany, which was part of the reason that the Nazis were able to re-arm. Britain and France would've had to go to war (and ultimately they did) to stop Hitler because they had no leverage over Germany.

Today the United States is the sole remaining superpower and superpowers are only defeated when they spread their resources too thin and fight too many wars. The United States as a superpower can use diplomatic leverage to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

13. Pathetic
This Lieberman has got to be one of the most pathetic, sniveling, craven quislings this country has ever seen.

And you have got to know that if he had been anywhere in Nazi-occupied Europe in the 30's and 40's, he would have been a big-time collaborator.

And still have maintained that he was a good Jew.

14. This bit is true enough:
> "This is a very serious situation," Lieberman said.
> "We've learned from history - from Hitler ..."

He & his leaders (both sets) have certainly done that.

Quisling.
