I'm taking another sabbatical from this place;
I took a six month haitus from the place because I got tired of watching everyone rat eachother out. I always felt that as Democrats we should all be on the same team and work a little harder to get along with one another.

I don't hate anybody here. As a matter of fact, I have longstanding rivals and others I keep in contact with via PM. For the most part it's all been respectable even with the folks I've had some hard fought debates with in the past. The point I've always felt was to keep it fun.

And so we did.

Then after awhile it seemed that those not involved in the debate or discussion got the guster to play hall monitor. The first few times I let it fly and then it just got to annoying to bear. So I decided to to take a break. I didn't post here for six months. My hope was that with time some folks would get tired of ratting eachother out and the "neener neener" antics that followed.

Really, if I wanted to deal with that I'd spend my free time with the middle managers at my job. They always get their jollys diming each other out and those around them.

I don't blame the mods for it. I think they have a tough job and it can't be a lot of fun playing babysitter on this board all day. You couldn't pay me enough to deal with the bullshit those guys have to put with on a daily basis around here.

The point is that hanging around here too long makes me start to hate Democrats. Not for the issues but for the way they treat some treat eachother around these parts with the ratting. I don't want to hate anyone or this party.

So with that said.

I'm off.

Good luck to all of you.

11. I have no knowledge of this situation, but after years online it sure seems like
"please don't go" is the very point of most message board goodbyes or the like. I've just never understood making it into something worthy of its own thread. But I would like to announce, probably to the disappointment of some here although the vast majority do not know me, that I am not leaving DU. Let me repeat, I am not leaving DU.

13. Forget it Jake, it's Cybertown
Swan songs, sheesh.

Just go, pm or email those you're contact with if you've a mind to and just go. Reminds me when my then 14yo son announced he was taking up a vow of silence.

I'm not sure how to respond to this news. 'Please don't stay' doesn't seem quite right...

Sorry, I'm a little choked up right now... I'll work on something to post in the new thread.

2. I think it's symptomatic.

Check out the theme behind Will Pitt's latest. It's so bad out there, overall, and many of us are SO damned tired of fighting on so many fronts trying to forestall the damage being done, or prevent it, or head it off in some way, or minimize it when it inevitably comes. It's just damned frustrating, and I think sometimes we turn on each other out of frustration. We'd aim it at our reps if they bothered to listen to us, but by the very nature of the job they've been doing lately, it's clear that's something they don't do too much, or take to heart even if they do (listen to us, that is).

BTW - we'll miss you! If you have to bail out, please don't be gone too long. We need you!

4. Yes, do.
if you are feeling like many of us do,
you will take comfort in the fact that Will
has put "the feeling" into words.

9. I've had to do the same now and again
just to keep some semblance of sanity. I think too often despair outweighs hope and it just gets too much.

But a post this morning from crewleader with Willaim Rivers Pitt gave me hope that sanity will once again take over DU. Thank you crewleader and Will , long time fan of you both.

18. Why all the drama?
I find it amusing that people think they need to announce that they are leaving DU. Just leave! Heck, I've taken several breaks over the years, but never felt a need to announce any reason or excuse to do so. Those who do only seem to want attention for doing so, or they wouldn't post it. Maybe they want people to beg them to stay or something, I don't know.

If anyone thinks taking a break will somehow change the dynamics of the board, I beg to differ. I have been here since 2001, and the place is pretty much the same. Yeah, there's flaming, arguing, and name calling....the nature of the beast, I suppose. But, when it gets down to the nut-cuttin, we are on the same side. You won't find many here who hail the republican point of view, but we all have variations in the way we see things. I consider myself a conservative democrat in that I am fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Others are ultra-liberal, or are even more conservative than I. God bless em!

Don't get me wrong, taking a break is sometimes necessary. We all get fed up at times. I just don't think all the drama is necessary, but different strokes for.......

Here's an idea......next time you get fed up and want to stay away for a while, send in a hundred dollar donation. That way you'll feel DU owes you some good arguments! He he! I can't seem to stay away too long. Living in republican hell keeps me here in want of people of like mind. I don't care if you hate HRC, or Kerry, or Obama, or anyone. Bottom line...get democrats elected. We can argue about who we recommend....that's the process. The result is the goal.
