Over on LBN there's a thread about a new Virginia law levying "administrative fees" for various traffic offenses--$1000 payable over three years for 20 miles over the speed limit, and a special one for being a passenger in a car whose driver commits hit-and-run. They're doing this because it's apparently illegal to raise the gasoline tax a nickel a gallon.
Frank Zappa's most important album is "Joe's Garage." It's all about Joe, a musician in a rock band that only knows one song, against a government that has decided everyone should be the same, the only way everyone could be the same is if everyone was a criminal, and the only way everyone could be a criminal is if they banned music...so that's what they did.
Your assignment, whether you choose to accept it or not, is to procure a hardcopy of Joe's Garage--downloading it IS NOT FULFILLING YOUR ASSIGNMENT because you won't get the oh-so-critical liner notes--and listen to the whole thing at least once while reading the fat little book that explains the whole opera as it unfolds.
To prove you have completed your assignment, answer these ten questions:
1. What town is Mary from? 2. Mary dumped Joe for all the roadies from a traveling band. What's the band's name? 3. Who gave Joe the clap? 4. After Joe got over the clap, he joined a religious cult. Name it. 5. What's the name of the bar Joe picked up the toaster in? 6. Translate "fuck me, you ugly son of a bitch" into German. 7. Who was King of the Plookers? 8. Name Joe's guitar and amp. 9. What color was Joe's cell painted? 10. What is not a very efficient device?
