By Executive Order, Crocs Aren't Chic - Bush's Prez Seal Socks & Crocs

Crocs have been given the presidential seal of approval but this is not necessarily a good thing.

George W. Bush was photographed recently in a pair of black Crocs -- Cayman style, $29.99 -- as he was heading out from the White House to ride his bike. He wore the clunky resin clogs -- which have ventilation holes and a heel strap -- with a pair of black shorts, a white camp shirt, a baseball cap with the image of an unidentified Scottish terrier and black bike socks imprinted with the presidential seal. He had the backstraps of his Crocs flipped forward so they rested on the top of the shoes -- turning them into slides. This subtle gesture -- coupled with the subdued color -- actually made the exceedingly unattractive shoes look tolerable.

Could they have been in a goodie bag at the May fundraiser for the Virginia Republican Party, which, according to the Associated Press, Crocs Chairman Rick Sharp hosted and Bush attended?

According to the folks at Crocs, which is based outside Boulder, Colo., Bush acquired the shoes independently. "We didn't seed the presidential marketplace," says spokeswoman Tia Mattson. "We do have such a broad demographic that even though he's not a 'normal' consumer, he fits right into it: sporty, outdoorsy."

Bush's decision to wear black socks with his Crocs was ill-considered. The combination makes one think of an old man on his way to the beach. Besides, the shoes were conceived for use on boats. The holes allow air to circulate and water to drain. And the non-slip bottoms offer stability. Pairing them with socks is a contradiction.

Yep, it did make him look like an old man!

2. What a Childish Little Prick
A real adult, male or female, does not need to wear labels to know who he/she is, or how he/she is perceived by others.

This is an adolescent stunt, an affectation, a little boy thinking that if he puts on a New York Yankes uniform shirt on, he's a big leaguer.

What a superficial, childish little wimp.

3. He is an old man. And I'm not talking about his age.
I'm talking about his inability to compromise...his "set" ways, if you would. For Dumbyass, there is only one way; and that's HIS way. ("I'm the president!!! I'm the president!!!" "I'm the decider!!!", etc)

I know people who were born 40 years earlier than him who are younger by far.

4. That fad was due to expire, anyway
and soon the only people wearing them will be people who have to stand on their feet all day.

Pictures like that have been known to kill trends, all by themselves. What fashion conscious people want to be identified with a 60 year old guy with baggy Bermuda shorts, wearing Crocs with SOCKS?

I mean, really!

5. Crocs are ugly
But very comfy for all day wear. Honest. Feels like you're walking on air and water.

6. Nothing wrong with Crocs- it's the socks that scream, "I'm an utter shithead!"
The Presidential Seal on his SOCKS? Seriously, WHO the hell does that?

16. To be honest, unless the seal is on some official uniform, probably nothing.
There are legions of little old ladies (of both sexes) working hard to glorify (and suck up to) BananaBreath. They sit at home, patiently embroidering the seal and his name on everything from doilies to tablecloths to socks to caps to shirts to g-strings to codpieces so they can box it up and send it in as an offering to their savior.

Far be it from ME, of course, to imply that some ne'er-do-well will probably, one day, send him a set of official Decider-in-Chief underoos pre-marked "front" and "back" and liberally laced with crab lice eggs.

It makes me wonder, though, what sort of offerings DICK gets?

8. I wonder which is worse?
The picture of the Crocs with black socks and the presidential seal, or the picture of him in a Stetson, long coat, boots with the presidential seal, carrying Barney? Both pictures make me cringe. Is the man so dense that he needs the presidential seal on every article of clothing he wears, so that he doesn't forget who he is?

19. The nursing staff at my doctor's office are required to wear
socks with theirs. The phlebotomist told me it was extra protection in case they drop a needle or have to slosh around in bodily fluid. But, at least their socks are cute little white anklets.

But, that's a valid reason. Bush just looks like an old tourist in his socks/Crocs combo.
