It is axiomatic among our Republican Pundit class that Democratic Candidates want to run as moderates because Americans hate liberalism so much (in this they agree, apparently, with the Democratic Leadership Conference). They have to pretend to be moderate to trick the American people into voting for them (see for example, Clinton calling for an end to welfare).
Unfortunately in this election cycle, according David Limbaugh, the "Smart" Limbaugh brother, we, the liberals in the party, are messing up their chances to trick the American People.
The pressure is working; fueled largely by the growing unpopularity of the war and conservatives' pronounced disappointment with President Bush over immigration and other issues, the Dem candidates are already much further to the left than liberal John Kerry was in 2004.
. . . let it not be overlooked just how radical is the leftist agenda for America: They envision a completely different nation from that of mainstream Americans. Let it not be overlooked that these radicals, at this very moment, own the Democratic Party and all its movers and shakers.I guess I don't feel like I own the Democratic Party, but them I'm a bit of a Moderate, so maybe I wouldn't.
What's interesting is the sort of triple cross Republicans imagine is going on in the head of Hillary Clinton. She really is a radical liberal just like us. But she has to pretend to be a moderate Democrat to placate the middle, an act she's been putting on for years, apparently. And now, in a bizarre switch-a-roo she has to pretend that she's agreeing with us to placate us, while at the same time secretly actually agreeing with us. That must be very difficult to keep straight.
Unless, of course, you favor the simpler explanation that she really is a bit of a moderate.
