Ok DUers, where are YOU going to do your July 4th readings this year

Last year I took it upon myself (and further reinforced my reputation as a freak in my hometown, but fuck em) to go into my public square with a megaphone and read aloud the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and several Revolutionary War era speeches. Patrick Henry's in particular heh. I even made an effort to inform and invite about every news org from here to Albany and Buffalo and back to cover it and sent press releases to all local papers. None got printed and no one came but someone on DU do me a favor and pay it forward. Get a group. Do it in front of a recruiter or your town hall. I was all alone in my hometown last year standing up and reaffirming my citizenship. Do me proud DU and let's make this a tradition on our nation's birthday and maybe she'll live to see a few more.

Reading Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech made me feel like I've done something in all of this mess. I don't believe in our government anymore but I still cherish the tenents on which this nation was formed and I would die for them.

7. When I read those words
of our patriots, I feel like I've gone back in time to their time, and am taking up that cause with them. I also think of what my ancestors who fought in the Revolution went through-the marches, the fighting-one was even captured by Native Americans and was nearly killed at the stake. All those things swirl in my mind and, frankly, I cry when I read those documents.

4. apparently not to many
it's not fun standing alone having people look at you like you're a lunatic, but democracy isn't fun when it's broken so let's fix it. Kick.

6. Oh, I have no problem with standing alone
I've done that before. Actually, sounds like a good thing to do. There will be a street fair on the 4th in the town where I work-I may read the Declaration aloud then, and maybe run off copies for people to take. It will be interesting to see if I will be allowed to do that.

10. I was actually hoping to have some conflict of some kind
At least someone saying I'm disturbing the peace by reading the DOI on Independence Day. I'm sure the ensuing discussion about that would have seen me incarcerated briefly. I think I even asked DU if they had my back (bail) the day I decided to do it. DU of course said they would.

9. Read it to yourself
to a patriot this should be our scripture. We should give it as much reverance as any man made God.

In my fallout shelter with my duct tape and frogman gig. Here where the fallout from the rogue crop dusters and rogue death drones from Iraq can't harm me. Here where I'm as free as the eagle.

Edit...I'd go shopping but I'm afraid of Luneeinum Tubes and Mushrooms.

13. I just mentioned this to a friend having a 4th of July barbeque
He thinks it is a great idea and is going to do it. We were talking about a reading in town at a public park and another later in the day at the barbeque.
