So many excellent documentaries - here's one more: "Maxed Out"
About the crushing effect of predatory lending on the US economy and US citizens...

It's out on DVD - I just saw it, and it hit me as much as "Sicko" did.

1. The ONE thing that every parent should do for their kids is to teach them
to NOT borrow money or to NOT use credit cards.

Once a person is in debt, there is NO way out.

parents also should liberally use the word "NO!".

3. They will bombard your child with credit card offers...........
even if they have no job. Sickening! :grr: I explained credit cards to my daughter at an early age: how they work, how the credit card companies can change the rules anytime they feel like it, how many young people have to file for bankruptcy because they can't pay even the interest on the damned things. I DID give her a credit card on MY account for emergencies and she knew I could see everything she used it for. She seldom used it, always asked first before she did and NEVER abused it.

She's graduated now, working and is STILL scared to death of having a credit card in her possession. She uses her debit card exclusively. I scared the crap out of her about credit cards at an early age and I'm glad I did. The credit card companies have no consciences, it's all about new "customers" for them. The banking industry should be regulated to the hilt, along with energy companies etc. but that's for another post. ;)
