Tweety's Show - I'm done
I'm done for a while.

TV off. No more Tweety, CNN, MSNBC, etc... No CSPAN and newpaper only on Sundays (for the local section). Doubt I'll watch any more debates for a while.

I don't care. It isn't my world. The hate and bile that is spewed in our public discourse is more than I care to take. Hell ANYONE who wants to run for public office in this day and age is certified bat-shit insane regardless of party. If you want the job you aren't qualified because you aren't mentally stable. Who the hell would open their lives to so much vile hatred?

There is no discourse anymore. The bar has been lowered so much thanks to 24/7 'news' that it has been completely destroyed. I don't care what some talk show host thinks about anything. Right or Left. What qualifications do they have anyway? None. If they were qualified to do anything they would be doing it. I'll go back to listening to music thanks. No more books about what a shithead Bush is. I've read enough. I know.

We have people making our laws that have no business being there. The idiot in charge of Internet Commerce thinks it runs on tubes. Lawmakers appropriate money for Creation Museums. Bridges funded to deserted islands.

Maccaca, People's dead children, she has cancer to get attention, "Is he black enough?", he is Mormon, he lived with a gay couple.....

blah, blah, fucking blah.

I'm done. See you in The Lounge.

2. There's more honest, intelligent debate in the most raucous GD flame-fest
than in an entire week's worth of MSM.

I shut the tube off long ago, save for an occasional Countdown, TDS or Colbert Report.

No joke--the media killed democracy.

32. Sadly, I agree. The limits of parody have been reached.
After all, how can one possibly attain a comedic exaggeration of Cheney's claim to be independent of Executive Branch regulations and oversight? How can one possibly exaggerate Coulter's hate-filled pathology?

The "dumbing down" of America has been accomplished beyond any Dark Ages fan's dream. We're a black hole in the continuum of sane discourse.

I was off of work that week, and I was in shock that they showed just how bad New Orleans was and just how badly * had fucked up.

I get my news from DU and various internet news sites. Don't watch the tv news at all, local or national.

Michael Moore getting bumped from his Larry King interview for Paris Hilton pretty much sums it up.

12. I sent an E-mail to MSNBC yesterday after that disgrace of a show
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 10:56 AM by AndyA
they call Hardball.

I told them that I would be programming my digital recorder to tape Olbermann's show, and I would watch it from the recording instead of turning on the television even 30 seconds early on the chance that I might catch a glimpse of Matthews.

I also told them I would not watch any shows on their network hosted by Matthews, Carlson, or Scarborough. If Olbermann was co-hosting, I might watch but it would only be because of his participation.

I mentioned what a disgrace it was to have that Coulter woman on their network, and her appearance removed any shred of credibility or accuracy their network had. I copied Abrams on it as well.

It's really disgraceful to have criminals and liars appear on a news network as if they had any credibility at all. Coulter, DeLay, the asshole Blackwell from Ohio, all have been on MSNBC in the past month.

17. The media is like the parents of spoiled rotten kids, only WORSE!
Edited on Wed Jun-27-07 10:58 AM by calipendence
When they put up spoiled, rotten children like Ann Coulter on the air, that is equivalent to a parent that does nothing to curb the behavior of their rotten spoiled kids. Only in many of those cases, it is just a crime of neglect, or irresponsibility in terms of providing improper guidance for their kids.

In this case it is worse though, since these "parents" are USING the aberrant behavior of these little bastards/bitches to further an agenda of putting down the target of their "children's" obsessive hate, where in real life, that's usually not necessarily the case. What the media is doing using the likes of Man (should be BANNED) Coulter is despicable. Coulter should be in prison for voter fraud and society should be rid of her. Hope we can also send Katherine Harris to prison as her cell mate in Florida!

41. Take a break...
...and "read Al's book". :7 All my frustration over the last 7 years was expressed in that book by our former Vice President. So we're not alone. And his is a powerful voice.

The part we've been waiting for is about to happen. I think the MSM will cover it by then. By the way...here's my letter to MSNBC about yesterday:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

When I saw the promo that Ann Coulter was to be on Hardball...which I often watch...I was disgusted. I did not watch it live. When I heard about Elizabeth Edwards calling in, and the controversy, I did watch the interview online.

This morning, that interview has been 'the topic' on most MSNBC shows. In a kindergarten-like discussion, your people are pointing the finger and saying "She did it , first"..."No, she started it" to decide whether the blame for what happened on the show is Coulter or Edwards' fault. PATHETIC!

You are all missing the point. Ann Coulter has ONE motive: Get attention by stirring up controversy through the use of hateful speech so that she can sell books and make MONEY. She has used many people, including the Edwards and the 9/11 widows as her victims if it suits her purpose. MSNBC just demonstrated to me that you are willing to sink to her level for ratings...and to also make money.

I'm proud of ANYONE who stands up against this kind of hateful, childish dialogue in our society. ..and I thank Elizabeth Edwards for doing so. That is what a strong First Lady should do for our country...point out the need for discussion on the issues when we are electing a President. Our country DESPERATELY needs to focus on issues at this critical time. What Ann Coulter does is distract from that, for her own selfish purposes. The media is responsible as well for giving her the stage.

If you all haven't read Al Gore's book, "Assault on Reason", I suggest you do. Many of us citizens are reading it and agree with the former Vice President about the role of television on democracy. I am seriously considering disconnecting my cable TV service...due to this kind of programming. The only thing that is keeping me as a customer is C-Span , PBS and Countdown, with Keith Olbermann on your network. If I see Ann Coulter on one of those shows, I'll be done.

24. I stopped watching those a few years ago
I check back in from time to time but they are so miserably misinforming that it only takes a few minutes. The entire punditry crowd is completely full of shit. It is a complete groupclusterfuck. I like Olbermann simply for pointing out facts (that always works ask Jon Stewart) but even his pundit guests are nauseating.

I just, finally, finished "Fiasco" last night. The American public, even DUers, have no idea the complete and under FIASCO that the whole operation was and is. Bush et al really are in a fantasy world and it ain't all just for the cameras they really think that things are not completely screwed up over there and will be. Note-the money that could have been spent in the PAkistani education system and what China does (Taiwan) are two things to watch for. Great read.

I haven't read Cobra II yet but that appears to be a complete afteractions review-may be a bit too heavy for me. I am going to read a book called "Food fight" by Daniel Imhoff about the nutzoid Farm Bill and the state of our food.

I'd listen/watch Hannity over Mathews anyway since Hannity at least offers the absurdity factor of watching the loudmouth from 8th grade still spewing what he remembers from what his abusive drunken father screams at the TV even if people actually think it is withing the Earth's atmosphere of the truth.

25. They are all the same and neither side *gets* it IMO
I will still watch the so called *news* occasionally (because I am nosy)but most of my time will be spent watching Dirty Jobs, or Myth Busters, Top chef, Food TV or whatever trivial bullshit that I can find from here on out to numb my mind.

I will still vote for whatever Dem they prop up and float out for human consumption in 08...
only because I really do believe that the Republicans have their heads further up their asses than the Democrats do on most social issues.

But I am here to tell you...there is (IMO) NO ONE in DC fighting for ME--they are all such elitists and power mongers that they have zero in common with my life and couldn't possibly begin to understand what the lives of their constituents are like, or how much the average person's quality of living has deteriorated over the last 7 years.

They don't know and they don't care--there is no low too low to stoop to for these people toward achieving THEIR goal (to get elected) and I do not believe that we can lay ALL of this on the media, I believe a lot of it lies directly at the feet of these morons that we the people supposedly elected.

I agree with you OP because I've also hit the wall-- *I* haven't changed and certainly gave it a good fight for many many years trying to get the word out to people about bush and cheney-- but when there is no one in my corner, I figure it's time to stop busting my ass for a cause that seems pretty much non-existent.

I mean IS there a cause? If there is then I will be damned if I can figure out what it is.

34. Man oh man ...... I hit this point about a month and a half ago.
I hear ya Matcom, I have a couple of shelves full of books I've read over the last few years on this bullshit administration. When Al Gores book came out I just didn't have it in me anymore to absorb anymore of this. So I passed and am intent to wait out the next year and a half come hell or high water. I too turned off the T.V., haven't been on DU but sparingly to 'keep up' on and on. I haven't stopped trying to do good for others in my own little world when and where I can, been planting trees, getting to know my neighbors better, fixing up the house I bought for my mom, working out and riding my bikes more, etc... etc...

Anyway yea our Country seems pretty sick judging from what's on T.V. and everything you said in your post hit a nerve with me, brought back the same reaction I had to it all ...... and I had to call one of my 'time outs' done for now policy's too.

Hang in there, breath. Sometimes you just gotta get away from this shit to keep your own sanity. I know I do. Life is a gift, and to relieve these frustrations I need to keep reminding myself sometimes to live it as such more so, as a gift. Okay I'm rambling now. Peace. :hi:

ps: doesn't mean I've shut up about this bullshit administration, I still give my opinion when and where I need to. Peace again ;)

37. Yup. BabyMidlo wants to learn how to cook, so that has
been a wonderful distraction as well.

38. Glad that you are joining so many of us
even some RWers I know have stopped watching television completely and now just stick to their Netflix or Blockbuster rentals for that type of entertainment. It'll just raise your blood pressure and make you wonder if you've lost 20 IQ points just by sitting through an hour of that swill. Anymore I've just got Netflix, the library, and podcasts on my iPod and that's more than enough for me!

39. I feel the same way Matcom and created a video about it
"American Pravda"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0IPjEs9-a4

I had the pleasure of meeting you at the FIRST antiwar rally in DC...I was an idiot too for feeling like we could nip this seeping fascism in the bud. Without the media reporting the truth, corruption has flourished for the past several years and will continue to do so until there's a mass boycott of the present system. I think that's building...they are losing viewers in droves because FINALLY, the gig is up and people are becoming much more aware thanks to the internet. I still have hope. :hi:

Keep your eyes open toward the end of the video and check out what I did with O'Reilly. :D

74. fantastic! I just commented on it there, and other DUers, who have a youtube
account should do the same, as well as rating it up.

you should start a separate thread on this, btw

thanks again

loved the bit about the Boston Tea Party, among others!

reminded me if the idiots here who insist on criticizing Chavez of being guilty of attempting a coup in his country.....

I can't take it anymore. I've made a conscious decision to dramatically limit my exposure to this poison, and I feel so much better for it. I'm calmer and I'm happier.

49. Talk show hosts with no qualifications? But, but, some of them are beauty queens!
i can't handle the 2008 campaign starting the day after the 2006 campaign. It's making me fucking crazy. I'm sick of it already. I'd rather stay home than vote for some of the Dem crowd with their records. We need a real leader to show up and steal it away, someone like Al Gore or Wes Clark. (I can live with Edwards and Richardson, too.)

51. I think increasing numbers of Americans just ignore the crap now.
And a backlash is likely to grow over the adolescent manner in which discussions of issues take place in this country.

Conservatives have pretty much ruined what was left of any credibility in the media. . .and the corruption in our own public servants pretty much have ruined much faith in the government.

52. I'm to the point where I want them all to be eaten by sharks.
Cheney. Lieberman. Tweety. Coulter. Robertson. Wiener-Savage. Everybody but Bush. I want his mistakes to encircle him and watch as his world crashes down around him as he wallows in drunken self-pity and cirrhosis slowly destroys him from the inside.

I'm tired of being angry all the time, and I think this must have been their plan all along. The outrages pile up day after day until they become routine. And now, I am numb.

56. I only watch Free Speech TV, LINKTV and Keith Olbermann
FSTV can be found on channel 9415 on Dish Net, LINKTV, Channel 9410 Dish Net. I think LINKTV can be found on DirecTV, but not FSTV. A few cable companies carry them. I don't bother with Tweety the idiot, or any of the others on MSM except Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, that's it.

MSM appears to have helped with the coup or 2000 and 2004, they still have not reported the rest of the story, after they covered for Repub fascists.

And it's that much more affecting because it comes from someone more known for humorous posts.

59. been saying the same thing for a while, but i'm really starting to mean it now. the final step is
when you actually shut the TV off and listen to music (which what i'm doing also, and not feeling guilty about the 'mindlessness' of it), stop reading as many papers everyday (and not caring what you're "missing"), etc. i find myself caring less and less everyday about politics and most other elements of "mainstream" culture. yeah, tweety's hour long show all about ann coulter follwed up by scarborough all about the benoit murders definitely made me disgusted; turned it off a little ways into scarborough. should have turned it off sooner.

60. What took you so long?
Watching Tweedy is like watching FOX. There are only two news shows on mainstream cable networks that I'm willing to sit for. Countdown and the Situation Room and the Situation Room is just barely tolerable. Other than those I'll watch the BBC or Democracy Now when I want news.

And in 2007.
And will in 2008.

last spring, "why in the hell do I watch this show if it makes me so mad?"

So, I stopped punishing myself, and I've not watched for over a year.

It's great.

Wasn't the text enough to draw attention? Did "we" have to participate by plastering her mug shot on the home page? Major error in judgement.
