Poll question: Would you switch support from your current Dem of choice to Al Gore if he runs for President?
I do believe Al Gore's future potential campaign operatives frequent DU to gage the pulse of Dems.

All the information they gather could add up to the right mix Al needs to see to suggest another Presidential run is well worth it! Until Al absolutely and unequivocally rules out a Presidential run in 08, I know I'll hold on to that hope --- no matter how many folks accuse me of wishful thinking. As much as I like and support Barack Obama currently, I'd happily switch that support to the very best person suited to be our next President...Al Gore!

QUESTION:

Would you switch your support from the current candidate you are supporting to Al Gore if he decides to enter the Presidential race?

37. 74% in this unscientific poll would!
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 03:04 PM by RiverStone
From the switcheroos to the uncommitted --- it says 3 of 4 on DU would support Al regardless of current choice (or non-choice).

I assume Al is aware that he has this level of support on more places than just DU...

DU tends to represent the more liberal wing of the Democratic party, yet I wonder what the implications would be on a national level should Al jump in? If 3 out of 4 Dems immediately jumped in the Gore bandwagon, it would mean a sweeping and overwhelming victory in the primaries for Al.

And this voter believes a tidal wave of momentum would carry him to victory through the general election!

35. Edwards is much better than Gore
He actually cares about people in poverty--unlike Gore, who (with Clinton) destroyed welfare and left the safety net in tatters.

19. I'd stick with Obama.
Obama has a far greater ability to inspire people, which is what one needs to get elected President. Gore just doesn't have it and no amount of experience can make up for that. I want to win this time.

22. What about a Gore/Obama ticket?
Would that grab you?

A veteran who has vast command of the topics and knows the tricks of governance, teamed up with a bright, energetic, though slightly inexperienced, light of the future?

That would knock me OUT!

25. The sizzle is why I support Obama already
His energy and hope is infectious.

My partner thinks experience and statesmanship are more needed right now with all the mess we're in thanks to the last 7 years. He thinks Clinton is the only one who can fix all the fuck ups.

But we'd both be pretty stoked about Gore.

An Oscar winning-Nobel prize winning (that's a done deal) Presidential candidate would have plenty of sizzle, especially if he drops the handlers which boxed him in in 2000 and let him be himself.

27. I think the only one to blame
for Gore's behavior and not dumping his handlers is Al Gore. He made his own decisions about who to hire, fire and listen to in 2000.

Gore would make a great President but voters frequently pick the person who inspires them with a clear message over the person with more experience. That's why Kennedy beat Nixon, Carter beat Ford, Reagan beat Carter, and Clinton beat Bush. All of those were victories of someone with a message that really connected with people over the person with more experience. Gore has never been able to do that beyond Democratic loyalists and I don't expect that to suddenly change.

I think Gore would mop the field with ANY of them.

But I'm not holding my breath that gore gets in the race.

26. He is my only candidate
Not that the others aren't good people and good leaders, but I think we are at a serious cross roads. We need someone respected by the world, with not just intelligence, but true wisdom. Were this any other time I would probably support one of the others. But for right now, in this moment, he is the only possible candidate that I feel can truly heal the wound left by the bush administration, both here and across the globe.

36. Voted 'No.' Will support our Democratic nominee no matter who it
is.

Gore is powerfully qualified and already once-elected. But his entering the race won't trump my vote in the primaries.

One of our people will be at the top of our ticket coming out of Denver and that person gets my vote in the general.
